OverviewCommunity association management is one of the last industries that software hasn't really fixed. Tens of thousands of managers are buried in manual work, including tracking violations, chasing payments, fielding homeowner requests, etc. All within an industry that serves 75 million Americans and is still largely run on spreadsheets and phone calls.
Vantaca is changing that. We're the AI-first platform purpose-built for this industry. 6.5M doors, 550+ management companies, $1.25B valuation, 100% YoY growth, and we've only just started. AI agents already run the back office for our customers. We're building the platform layer that every product team and every AI agent depends on, for the first time. The Engineering Manager, Platform, shapes it rather than inherits it.
What You'll OwnIdentity & Access Management
- Design and deliver a centralized IAM layer, including authentication, authorization, RBAC, and multi-tenant identity, which is used across all Vantaca surfaces and API consumers.
- Greenfield with org-wide reach once shipped.
API infrastructure & developer experience
- Build the gateway, versioning, and contracts that internal teams and external partners depend on, and own the developer experience of consuming them.
- Time-to-first-call, SDK quality, sandbox, and documentation are part of the bar, not an afterthought.
AI orchestration layer
- Own the orchestration layer that governs how AI agents plan, reason, and execute across platform APIs.
- This includes tool routing, execution lifecycle, rate limiting, quota enforcement, and the reliability contracts that make autonomous agent workflows trustworthy at scale.
Engineering standards & security
- Set and champion cross-team standards for quality, testing, and security, embedded in how the platform team works and how other teams adopt platform services.
Team leadership
- Lead and grow a platform engineering team.
- Hire AI-native engineers, build high trust, and partner closely with product engineering leads across the org.
RequirementsPlatform & API craft
- 7+ years in software engineering; 3+ years managing engineering teams
- Hands-on experience building developer platforms, API gateways, or internal platform services consumed by multiple teams at scale - thousands of daily active consumers across a multi-tenant system
- IAM expertise: OAuth 2.0, OIDC, RBAC, multi-tenant identity at scale
- API design discipline - evolvable contracts, versioning, rate limiting, and a genuine opinion about developer experience
- Distributed systems fundamentals: queuing, event-driven patterns, observability, SLIs/SLOs
- Strong relational data modeling and correctness under scale
AI Native Development
- Active daily use of AI coding agents (Claude Code, Cursor, or similar) - this is a baseline, not a differentiator
- Deep experience designing and operating AI orchestration systems: agent planning loops, tool routing, execution lifecycle, and failure recovery
- You write specs before code and use AI to execute them - agentic development is your default workflow, not an experiment
- LLM production experience: cost/latency tradeoffs, evals, observability at scale
- Polyglot and pragmatic - language follows the problem
Leadership
- You develop engineers and hold a high bar without micromanaging
- You're in the work - your input on architecture and design earns trust from the team
- Your RFCs, ADRs, and runbooks are clear and actually used
- You hold cross-team standards without becoming a bottleneck
Nice to Have
- Background at a platform-as-a-service or developer-tools company (Stripe, Plaid, Twilio, or similar)
- Experience with event streaming infrastructure in a multi-tenant context
- Exposure to property management, HOA, or real estate tech
Core Values- Always Growing: Likes change and enjoys finding new ways to improve their knowledge and the platform. Always ready to learn quickly about emerging AI technologies and infrastructure patterns, helping themselves and the team grow.
- Win as a Team: Builds trust and works together by making sure everyone communicates well. Actively involved in daily platform work, working closely with engineering teams, listening to their infrastructure needs, and celebrating technical successes together.
- Accountability Starts with Me: Notices platform problems and takes personal action to solve them. Takes ownership of platform performance, reliability, and the success of internal customers building on the platform.
- Unwavering Commitment to Customer Experience: Regularly talks to internal customers (product teams, engineers), taking personal responsibility to understand what they need from the platform, address infrastructure concerns, and make their development experience better with improved platform capabilities.
- Innovate Boldly: We challenge the status quo and push technical boundaries to create meaningful change. We act with urgency and purpose, knowing that platform innovation drives our AI-native product success.
