Engineering Manager, DevEx

The Challenge to Solve

Slice's DevEx Platform teams build and evolve the internal developer platform, GitOps workflows, Kubernetes infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and developer tooling that power engineering across Slice. We are looking for a highly skilled Engineering Manager to lead the DevEx team, who can help raise the bar for reliability, security, and operational excellence. Management is key; your role is to create the conditions where platform engineers build reusable, high-impact systems that make every engineer at Slice more productive.

The Role

Own developer and business outcomes

Partner with engineering leadership to identify developer friction and platform opportunities. Measure success by improved deployment velocity, system reliability, platform adoption, and developer productivity-not just features shipped or tools built.

Lead technical direction

Guide architecture and technical strategy across our Internal Developer Platform, deployment workflows, and cloud infrastructure. Help the team build reusable patterns, self-service tooling, and strong guardrails that make the right thing the easy thing.

You should be comfortable leading teams working with:

• Kubernetes, Docker, AWS, and cloud-native architecture.
• ArgoCD & GitOps principles for safe, scalable application delivery.
• Python for internal tooling, automation, and infrastructure management.
• GitHub Actions & CI/CD pipeline automation.
• Network architecture, DNS, Cloudflare.
• Datadog (dashboards, metrics, logging, tracing, alerting) and Terraform.
• Generative AI tools to develop and deploy applications, including agentic applications/services using LLM APIs

Build a highly effective team

Give platform engineers context, clear decision boundaries, and meaningful ownership. Encourage an automation-first mindset, reducing toil and creating scalable self-service capabilities.

Raise execution standards

Help the team deliver platform improvements frequently and safely. Standardize workflows, improve observability, and embed operational excellence into everyday development.

Develop exceptional people

Hire, coach, and retain outstanding platform and software engineers. Provide meaningful ownership, direct feedback, and growth opportunities.

Lead across Slice

Partner closely with engineering teams to understand pain points and drive platform adoption across the organization through collaboration, clear documentation, and empathy.

You will lead engineers on the DevEx Deploy & Run team, collaborating across the US, Canada, UK, and Europe. We value thoughtful asynchronous communication, clear documentation, and high-quality written decisions.

• Technical expertise across Kubernetes, GitOps (ArgoCD), CI/CD (GitHub Actions), Python automation, AWS, Terraform, and Datadog.
• Proven track record of improving developer experience, deployment reliability, and engineering effectiveness.
• A platform mindset: thinking in reusable systems, self-service tooling, and scalable guardrails rather than one-off fixes.
• Clear, direct communication across both technical platform teams and product engineering stakeholders.
