Job Description: Engineering Manager - Cloud/DevOpsOur team is dedicated to ensuring the seamless operation of all user-facing services, as well as production and development systems. We manage Venmo's infrastructure comprehensively, encompassing operations, automation, security, compliance, and release engineering. While we are focused on Cloud Engineering, our work integrates elements of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) and DevOps projects as well. On the DevOps front, we oversee CI/CD infrastructure, develop smart and secure pipelines, implement self-service secret management systems, create development environments, and establish microservices scaffolding and testing frameworks. The quality of the systems we build is paramount to the company, and we prioritize it highly. Our infrastructure must be delivered automatically, thoroughly tested, and scanned for vulnerabilities through synthetic tests.
As an Engineering Manager, you will lead a team of Cloud and DevOps engineers responsible for Venmo's cloud infrastructure, tooling, and platform services; focusing on business continuity areas such as disaster recovery, chaos engineering, and failover game days. You will set the technical and organizational vision for your team, partner closely with engineering leadership and product teams, and ensure your engineers have the support, context, and resources to do their best work.
What You'll Do- Lead and grow a team of Cloud/DevOps engineers, providing mentorship, coaching, and career development
- Define and communicate team goals, OKRs, and roadmaps in alignment with organizational priorities
- Partner with staff engineers and architects to set technical direction and drive strategic infrastructure initiatives
- Own hiring and team composition, including interviewing, leveling, and onboarding
- Facilitate agile ceremonies and remove blockers to keep the team productive and focused
- Drive operational excellence by championing best practices in reliability, security, and delivery
- Manage relationships with cross-functional stakeholders, translating business needs into engineering workstreams
- Monitor team health, developer experience, and delivery metrics, adjusting plans as needed
What We're Looking For- Bachelor's in computer science or related field; advanced degree a plus
- 7+ years of software engineering experience
- 2+ years of engineering management experience, leading teams of 4 or more engineers
- Strong technical background in cloud infrastructure, DevOps, or SRE
- Experience with AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, or similar technologies
- Proven ability to hire, develop, and retain top engineering talent
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Experience managing distributed teams and complex cross-functional programs
- Track record of delivering high-quality systems at scale
