Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering.

NOTE:

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:
  • Assist with overseeing the daily operation of the District's Bridge Inspection Program.
  • Reviews and pre-approves bridge inspection reports and assigns bridge repair work order to proper maintenance personnel.
  • Coordinates material, equipment, labor, press release, and traffic control plans for inspection and maintenance activities.
  • Checks, verifies, and performs QA bridge inspections with Bridge Inspector 5 to ensure the quality of bridge inspection for routine and special inspection.
  • Coordinates and assist the bridge electricians on movable bridge repairs. Compiles and reviews relevant maintenance and inspection data to assess current bridge condition.
  • Administers the district guardrail repair contract: communicates with maintenance specialist to obtain pictures and details of guardrail location, records location and magnitude of repair, issues notice to proceed to guardrail contractor to initiate repairs.
  • Submits all necessary repair and cost documentation to collect reimbursable claims.
  • Assist the district bridge engineer with overseeing facility projects performed by contractors and district personnel to ensure facility projects are completed on schedule and under budget.

Position-Specific Details:
Appointment Type: This position may be filled as either a probational appointment, promotion, or by detail to special duty.

Career Progression: As part of Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as an Engineer 3, Engineer 4, or Engineer 5 depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant.

Work Schedule: Work hours are to be determined, Monday - Friday.

Compensation: Salary depends on qualifications. There is a Special Entrance Rate (SER) for the Engineer 3, Engineer 4, and Engineer 5:

Engineer 3 - Special Entrance Rate (SER) $33.39/hourly. Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering.

Engineer 4 - Special Entrance Rate (SER) $36.90/hourly. Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering plus One year of licensed engineering experience OR Five years of professional engineering experience.

Engineer 5 - Special Entrance Rate (SER) $39.48/hourly. Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering plus Two years of licensed engineering experience OR Six years of professional engineering experience.
Required License for Engineer 3-5: Professional Engineer License in the State of Louisiana.

If selected, applicants with engineering licenses in other states will be required to attain a Louisiana engineering license prior to the date of hire.
