Full Job Description
Primary Purpose
Oversees complex settlement activities across multiple energy products, analyzes variances, and leads process improvements to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and compliance within the settlement function. The position is part of a collaborative accounting team supporting commodity and derivative activities across energy markets, including natural gas, and other related products. The team works closely with cross-functional partners, including Risk, Commercial, and Operations. The environment offers exposure to evolving processes, market dynamics, and technical accounting topics.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Performs settlement and accounting activities related to gas management transactions, including purchases, sales, storage, transportation, optimization activities, and related fee calculations.
  • Reviews and analyzes settlement statements, invoices, and supporting documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance with contractual terms and internal controls.
  • Partners with Commercial, Risk, Operations, Tax, and Accounting teams to resolve settlement, invoicing, and contractual interpretation issues.
  • Supports the implementation, testing, enhancement, and continuous improvement of ETRM systems and related settlement processes to improve efficiency, accuracy, and control effectiveness.
  • Oversees settlement processes for multiple energy products, including energy, ancillary services, and congestion costs.
  • Analyzes settlement variances and conducts root-cause investigations, recommending corrective actions.
  • Leads small projects focused on improving settlement accuracy and automation.
  • Communicates complex settlement issues and solutions to internal stakeholders to build consensus.
  • Ensures timely and accurate execution of settlements in alignment with market timelines and contractual obligations.
  • Develops and maintains advanced reporting tools for settlement performance tracking.
  • Coordinates with internal teams to resolve routine discrepancies in settlement data.
  • Collaborates with IT and operations teams to troubleshoot system-related settlement issues.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications

Education
  • Required: Typically requires a 4 year degree in a relevant field, or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

Experience
  • Required: Typically requires 5 years of related experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Required: Energy Transaction Management - Managing the purchase or sale of a specified quantity of energy at a known transaction point or through an organized market.
  • Required: Accounts Reconciliation - Comparing sets of financial records to ensure accuracy and prevent balance sheet errors.
  • Required: Regulatory Compliance - Ensuring an organization's adherence to laws, regulations, guidelines and specifications relevant to its business processes.
  • Required: General Ledger Accounting - The record-keeping system for a company's financial data, with debit and credit account records validated by a trial balance.
  • Required: Documentation and Records Management - Creating, distributing, using, maintaining and disposition of recorded information maintained as evidence of business activities and transactions.
  • Required: Data Analysis - Measuring and managing organization data, identifying methodological best practices and conducting statistical analyses.
  • Required: Contract Management - Streamlining the creation, execution, storage or renewal of contracts, with a focus on compliance, often via software or other automated means.
  • Required: Variance Analysis - Analyzing the difference between actuals and some predetermined measure such as a budget, plan or rolling forecast.
  • Required: Financial Reporting - Financial reporting is a standard accounting practice that uses financial statements to disclose a company's financial information and performance over a particular period, usually on an annual or quarterly basis.
  • Required: Energy Scheduling - The logistical planning of physical power flows by an operator in the power market.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Preferred: Experience with Energy Trading and Risk Management (ETRM) systems, including transaction lifecycle management, settlements, invoicing, and reporting processes.
  • Preferred: Knowledge of natural gas, LNG, storage, transportation, and commodity trading transactions, including contract interpretation and settlement practices.
  • Preferred: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to reconcile large datasets and identify discrepancies.
  • Preferred: Experience with data analysis tools such as Excel, Power BI or similar reporting and automation tools.
