Full Job Description

Amentum is seeking a Safety Specialist - A for a position on Kauai, HI. This position will prepare, coordinate, implement, and monitor environmental, safety and health (ESH) policies, plans, and procedures to assure the maximum safety of personnel, equipment, and property. The Safety Specialist will be required to certify, ship Hazmat and sign off on Hazardous Waste Manifests as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Provides OSHA, HAZMAT, HAZWASTE, and other related EHS training to employees.

  • Assist in providing technical safety guidance to employees and supervisors

  • Collect ship and coordinate lead, soil, water, oil, fuel, and asbestos samples for analysis. Monitor and document results. Certify, sign and ship Hazmat and Hazardous Waste (HW) as needed.

  • Handles HW operations, proper documents, and shipment of hazardous waste from "cradle to grave".

  • Maintains administrative files.

  • Documents and maintains ESH data, logs, and records.

  • Prepares reports IAW State and federal laws, Koa Lani PMRF policies and procedures.

  • Audits facilities and operations IAW OSHA guidelines and monitors follow-up for deficiencies.

  • Researches and furnishes SDS to tenants, government, and employees as required.

  • Provide personal protective equipment and/or research and procures for additional equipment as needed.

  • Member of the Spill Response Team and Certified as Incident Commander or equivalent.

  • Performs other duties as required by Supervisor.

Physical Elements/ Environment

  • Periodical exposure to hazardous material.

  • Lifting, Pushing/Pulling: 50+lbs

  • Work positions requirements: walking, standing, sitting

  • Environmental: Customer contact, Extended Workday, Confined Work Area, Office Laboratory, Field Assignment, and Increment Weather

Minimum Qualifications

Experience

  • Must have at least three years’ experience in the Environmental, Health and Safety field.

  • Must have at least one year experience in the Hazard Waste Management.

  • Must be familiar with Navy’s Safety & Environmental Policies.

  • Valid state driver's license.

  • Must be capable of operating a forklift.

  • Must have basic typing skills and possess the ability to prepare typewritten documents.

  • Must possess the following PC skills: Word, Excel, Outlook

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in the Environmental, Safety & Health field. Eight (8) years of directly related work experience may be substituted for a BA degree.

Certification

  • 29 CFR OSHA Train-the Trainers for the General and Construction Industries

  • 40 CFR RCRA Hazardous Waste Management Initial Training

  • OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER Training

  • 490 CFR DOT HAZ-MAT Shipping Training and 44 CFR FEMA ICS-200.

Desired Education

  • Certificates - OSHA 500 Courses, - EPA Environmental Education, - FEMA Emergency Management, HAZMAT Technician Level IV.

Security Clearance
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret US Government Clearance. Note: US Citizenship is required to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance. Applicants selected either must currently possess a Secret clearance or will be subject to a US Government Security Investigation and must meet eligibility requirements to obtain clearance prior to commencement of employment and maintain a security clearance for access to classified information or Closed/Restricted Areas throughout duration of employment.
