Full Job Description

GFT is seeking a Elevator Inspector to join our Construction Services Team in New York, NY. This role requires regular attendance in New York, NY.

What you99ll be challenged to do:

As an Elevator Inspector, you will inspect elevators, escalators, dumbwaiters, and other conveyance systems to verify compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and safety standards. You will perform and witness required testing, review new installations and modernization projects for code compliance, identify and document deficiencies, investigate complaints and incidents, prepare detailed inspection reports, review technical documentation, verify completion of corrective actions, and coordinate with contractors, owners, design teams, and regulatory agencies to support safe, compliant, and successful project delivery.

In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Conduct inspections of elevators, escalators, dumbwaiters, and other conveyance systems to verify compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and safety standards.
  • Perform and witness acceptance, periodic, and safety testing of elevator equipment, documenting results and commissioning activities before equipment is placed into service.
  • Review new installations, modernization, rehabilitation, and alteration projects for compliance with the NYC Building Code, ASME A17.1, NYCDOB requirements, and project specifications.
  • Identify code violations, unsafe conditions, and equipment deficiencies, and document findings with clear recommendations for corrective action.
  • Investigate elevator-related complaints, incidents, accidents, and hazardous conditions to determine compliance and safety concerns.
  • Prepare detailed inspection reports and maintain accurate records of inspections, violations, corrective actions, and project documentation.
  • Review technical documents, including permits, plans, shop drawings, contractor submittals, testing reports, and closeout documentation for completeness and code compliance.
  • Verify completion of corrective actions, punch list items, inspection deficiencies, and NYCDOB comments through final resolution.
  • Coordinate with owners, construction managers, design consultants, elevator contractors, and regulatory agencies to facilitate inspections, project progress, and closeout.
  • Maintain active NYC DOB Elevator Inspector credentials and stay current with applicable codes, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.

  • Minimum 5 610 years of elevator inspection experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of NYC Building Code, Elevator Code, and ASME A17.1.
  • Experience with elevator modernization and rehabilitation projects in occupied residential buildings preferred.
  • Strong technical report writing and documentation skills.
  • Experience coordinating with contractors, consultants, owners, and regulatory agencies.
  • NYCHA, public agency, or occupied multifamily residential elevator modernization experience strongly preferred.

Compensation:

The salary range for this role is $150,000 - $170,000. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
