This position provides electrical engineering (P2) support on issues in the Leeward portfolio of operating projects with the primary responsibility of providing solutions to improve overall wind and solar plants operating reliability and safety. The goals of this position are to manage and resolve critical electrical system issues that meet company guidelines for safety and compliance. The position requires the ability to manage complex and time sensitive projects in a fast-paced environment and communicate effectively with the engineering and operations teams.
Essential Functions: - Provide engineering support to optimize electrical equipment safety and reliability
- Identify, review and diagnose problems impacting electrical system reliability and performance by analysing data and performance, troubleshooting, and equipment inspections
- Manage substation and collection short term and long term maintenance programs
- Manages substation relays including programming, backup files, remote support and operational analysis
- Support operating facilities with electrical troubleshooting, including review of digital fault records, relays, and other operational data for electrical tripping events and mis-operations.
- Assist with maintaining and improving Leeward electrical system specifications for new and operating plants
- Analyzes, summarizes and communicates findings regularly with Leeward management team
Qualifications: - Familiarity with HV Substation protection and control; HV Substation designed is preferred
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, protection system, wiring diagrams and other common specifications
- Ability to work in Extra High Voltage Substations, with exposure to high electric and magnetic fields
- Ability to perform short circuit, load flow, protection system coordination, and arc flash experience is a plus
- Familiarity with latest versions of the following Code/Standards
- OSHA (1910.300, 1910.269)
- PE Registration Preferred or ability to obtain within 3 years of employment
- Excellent communication skills, including ability to clearly communicate ideas to non-engineers
- Ability to remain focused and reliable in completing tasks and meeting deadlines with minimal supervision
- Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated and manage technical projects, including interaction with outside vendors
- Demonstrated ability to manage priorities in a complex and dynamic environment
- Demonstrated ability to operate a motor vehicle and possession of a valid driver's license
Educational Requirements: - 4-Year Bachelors Engineering Degree
Preferred Work Experience: - 4 or more years of relevant technical experience; renewable experience preferred
Physical Demands: - Ability to perform physical tasks including standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, reaching, and climbing at project locations in order to inspect and repair equipment or collect information
- Willingness and ability to travel at least 25%
