Position Location

Position is located at the NASA/White Sands Test Facility in Las Cruces NM.

Job Overview

Provide electrical engineering support in the design, construction, & maintenance of any White Sands Test Facility (WSTF) requirements. Position may assist with the management of the electrical design process and may orchestrate the planning, design, cost estimating, procurement, and scheduling for projects. Position may provide recommendations for proposed engineering tests/products/equipment.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Duties:
  • Works mostly independently, or with moderate guidance/supervision from senior level engineer(s) and/or management. May rely on prior professional experience and knowledge of state and local regulations.
  • Assists with the support of electrical high voltage (>25KV), medium voltage (25KV-480V) to low voltage (480V-24V) AC power overhead distribution systems, emergency power systems, motor control, fire protection, lightning protection, arc flash, grounding, security systems, and fire alarm systems.
  • Primary deliverables include scopes of work, specifications documents, and cost estimates for future projects.
  • Utilizes professional knowledge of electrical, standard engineering theory and techniques, regulations to perform requirements determinations, technical assistance, and conventional design work.
  • Assists with support of electrical projects during construction including coordinating answers to Requests for Information, Change Orders, and solving problems that arise in the field.
  • May observe and provide support to participants on design review committees and processes.
  • Engages engineering support personnel for CADD and GIS support during project development.
  • Serves as electrical engineer-of-record for design documents and reports.
  • Prepares and presents informal and formal presentations to the customers and management.
  • Supports and participates in the company safety program.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Accountable For
  • Knowledge of a broad range of electrical engineering design and construction standards, methods, practices, techniques, materials, and equipment to determine compliance with federal, state, and local codes and regulations.
  • Ensures the highest standards are achieved and maintained in terms of safety, environmental performance, quality, and efficiency and makes recommendations for improvement when necessary.
  • Keeping up-to-date and knowledgeable of applicable industry regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Communicating effectively, orally and in writing, including the ability to make presentations to senior team and client management.
  • Effectively coordinating numerous projects simultaneously.
  • Adherence to established company safety policies and good industrial and office safety practices.
  • Compliance with company Standard Operating Procedures and Personnel policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and deadlines.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, reports, and submittals.
  • Provide occasional engineering support in the field under all environmental conditions.

Job Requirements

Mandatory:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum of four (4) years' experience as a Design Engineer or Requirements Engineer in the field of electrical engineering.
  • Skill in the use of MS Office products; Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat Standard/Pro at an intermediate level.
  • Ability to pass pre-hire background and drug screening as required on the contract.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain the required level clearance.
  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Valid state driver's license with acceptable driving record.

Preferred:
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer in the state of New Mexico or the ability to receive reciprocity within the introductory period.
  • Cross-discipline experience with mechanical and civil facility projects, building automation and control networks.
  • Knowledge of the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 and its application with regard to electrical requirements for facilities and distribution systems.
  • Basic knowledge of communications systems, as well as Instrumentation & Control (I&C) is needed. PLC and Logic are not required but preferred.
  • Demonstrated skill in the use of AutoCAD, SKM Power Tool, EST3-SDU and Fireworks is a plus.
  • Experience working on a government contract or on a government

Working Conditions:
  • Desk/office work and test area work.
  • Test area work may involve standing and directing technical personnel.
  • Field work may be necessary. Travel to remote sites/locations may be required.
  • Walking on uneven terrain including paved areas, gravel/rocks, and dirt/sand is required to access various locations on the facility.
  • All work must be completed in a safe manner in accordance with NASA and Company safety standards.
  • Work hours are subject to change, with weekend and/or holiday work as needed. May be required to work outside normal duty hours.

Physical Requirements:
  • Work is performed primarily in an office setting. This job may involve walking, standing, bending, reaching, and handling of items weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Work requires the ability to operate a computer, effectively communicate information in verbal and written form, read and review information.
  • Position is located on a hazardous testing facility; must be able to quickly evacuate buildings in the event of an emergency.
  • May be required to wear breathing protection (respirator), hearing protection, eye protection and other associated personal protective equipment.
