Electrical Design Engineer - Custom Power Systems is responsible for providing technical leadership and design direction in the development of customized generator set solutions. This role supports the full lifecycle of engineered-to-order power systems, including generator controls, communications, and power electronics.
The
Electrical Design Engineer will work cross-functionally with sales, application engineering, design engineering, procurement, and production. This position ensures that customer-specific solutions are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. The
Electrical Design Engineer role also supports manufacturing and field service teams by resolving design-related issues and driving continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities- Lead electrical design and integration of generator control systems, including internal genset controls, ATS controls, and associated harnessing
- Coordinate and integrate third-party electrical systems through design, build, and commissioning phases
- Provide technical support during the quoting process in collaboration with Applications, Datacenter Sales, and National Account teams
- Manage and prioritize multiple custom engineering projects to meet committed delivery schedules
- Develop detailed design packages including schematics, layouts, component selections, and specifications with consideration for manufacturability
- Collaborate with mechanical engineers and designers to ensure cohesive, customer-focused system designs
- Review and approve custom engineering designs for accuracy, completeness, and compliance
- Partner with procurement teams to ensure timely sourcing of components and materials
- Support production teams by resolving design questions and implementing necessary corrections during assembly
- Provide technical support to field service teams, including troubleshooting and resolving complex customer issues
- Identify risks, evaluate trade-offs, and implement design improvements using sound engineering and business judgment
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance engineering processes, reduce inefficiencies, and support system upgrades
- Collaborate with internal and external engineering resources, including simulation and regulatory compliance teams, as needed
- Estimate engineering effort, project timelines, and product costs for custom design requests
Qualifications- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from an ABET-accredited program
- 2+ years of experience and/or internships in electrical engineering, preferably in industrial, power systems, or product development environments
- 2+ years of experience and/or internships managing or supporting electrical design projects
- Working knowledge of power systems, generator sets, or related technologies preferred
- Familiarity with power system design, controls integration, and electrical schematics
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Strong curiosity and desire to solve problems
Preferred Qualifications- Experience with generator sets, switchgear, or power generation systems
- Exposure to power electronics and control systems
- Experience supporting new product development or custom-engineered solutions

The Salary range for this position is $83,300.00-$105,200.00.The specific Salary rate offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate's experience, their education, and the work location.
