Full Job Description
Electrical Design Engineer (Contract) Location: California Contract: 12 Months, with potential to extend | Full-Time Working Arrangement: Onsite Travel: Occasional / Regular The Opportunity We are partnering with an innovative advanced aerospace and electric aviation company seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to join its Energy Storage & Power Systems team. This is an opportunity to work on next-generation electric aircraft , taking ownership of the electrical design and integration of high-voltage battery systems and power distribution architectures . You will work across the full engineering lifecycle: from early architecture and trade studies through detailed design, analysis, testing and flight-ready hardware. The role would suit an engineer with a strong background in high-voltage power systems, battery technology or electric propulsion who enjoys solving complex, hands-on engineering challenges in a fast-moving R&D environment. What You'll Be Doing You will act as a key technical contributor for high-voltage electrical systems, with responsibilities including: Architecting 400V+ high-voltage power distribution systems , including busbars, wiring harnesses, contactors, fuses and power electronics interfaces. Leading the electrical design of lithium-ion battery modules and packs , including voltage and temperature sensing, cell balancing and high-current interconnects. Supporting the development of high-power charging systems , including on-board and off-board charging architectures. Performing electrical analysis including power budgets, voltage drop, fault-current modelling and transient/steady-state simulation . Developing grounding, shielding and EMI/EMC strategies for safety-critical aerospace systems. Designing HV protection systems including HVIL, isolation monitoring and circuit protection . Supporting component selection across MOSFETs, IGBTs, contactors and high-power PCB designs . Leading electrical verification activities including high-current characterization, insulation-resistance testing and HiPot testing . Conducting FMEA and failure analysis to identify and mitigate electrical safety risks. Working closely with mechanical, software, systems and manufacturing engineering teams. Producing technical specifications, engineering reports and design documentation to support development and certification. What We're Looking For You'll ideally bring: B.S., M.S. or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline. 8+ years of professional electrical design experience . Strong experience with high-voltage systems above 400V , ideally within aerospace, EVs, electric propulsion, automotive or heavy transportation. Deep understanding of high-power distribution, busbar design, creepage/clearance and electrical protection . Experience designing or integrating Battery Management System (BMS) hardware . Knowledge of lithium-ion battery systems , including voltage/current sensing, isolation, SoC and cell-balancing architectures. Proficiency with LTspice, PSpice, MATLAB/Simulink or similar electrical analysis tools. Experience with ECAD platforms such as Altium, Mentor Graphics or Zuken . Familiarity with NX and/or SolidWorks for electrical/mechanical integration. Strong knowledge of EMI/EMC, grounding and shielding . Ability to communicate complex electrical designs clearly across multidisciplinary engineering teams. Desirable Experience Experience in any of the following would be particularly valuable: eVTOL or electric aircraft * aerospace battery systems * EV propulsion * high-power charging * CCS/MCS/NACS * DO-160G * DO-311A * ARP4754 * ARP4761 * aerospace certification * high-power PCB design Previous certification experience is beneficial but not essential . Why Consider This Opportunity? This is a chance to work at the intersection of aerospace, electrification and high-voltage battery technology , contributing directly to the development of a new generation of electric aircraft. You'll be joining a highly technical engineering environment where your work will have a direct impact on aircraft power architecture, battery safety, performance and flight readiness . Interested? If you have a background in high-voltage electrical design, battery systems or electric propulsion and want to apply your experience to advanced electric aircraft, we'd love to hear from you!
