Context & Environment

Fast-paced trading environment - Operate in a fast-moving, dynamic trading environment where time-sensitive, business-critical activities demand strong planning, organization, and attention to detail. The Dry Bulk Trading Operator must apply sharp analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve issues quickly. This highly operational role also requires efficient management of unexpected after-hours emergencies and full on-call availability, 24/7.

Activities

The jobholder will be part of the U.S. Trading Operations & Logistics team and will serve as a key liaison between Operations and the Dry Products desk, as well as Middle Office, Back Office, Finance & Legal, and Chartering. This role is responsible for the efficient implementation, operation, and execution of the Company's Dry bulk contracts and physical cargoes, transported by sea, river, and land. The portfolio includes more than 50 cargoes per year, each valued between 5 and 17 million USD.
  • Collaborate with sellers, buyers, refineries, terminals, carriers, vessel charterers, and internal stakeholders to ensure each loading is executed as efficiently as possible, considering economics and market/physical constraints.
  • Support the management of both long-term and spot contractual commitments entered into by the Dry Products desk.
  • Manage the physical flow of the dry bulk delivery program and oversee the shipping logistics schedule with all parties involved.
  • Coordinate voyage instructions, documentary instructions, loading documents, and inspector/agent reports.
  • Monitor physical inventory levels and product specifications.
  • Initiate and manage protocols for Bills of Lading and loading documents, ensuring all documentation required for dry bulk operations is properly handled.
  • Select and nominate independent surveyors and agents at relevant terminals.
  • Work closely with the Operations teams in Geneva and Singapore to ensure FOB cargoes are properly managed and accounted for.
  • Collaborate with Finance and Credit teams on transaction evaluation and banking settlements.
  • Validate payables and receivables in the risk management system in a timely manner to optimize cash flow and meet contractual due dates.
  • Assist the Accounting department, when needed, with fund recovery from counterparties and account reconciliations.
  • Verify, analyze, and compare commercial and operational reports to ensure accuracy, optimizing quantity and quality discrepancies between purchase and sale to maximize Company revenue.
  • Initiate and follow the internal vessel vetting process, as required by internal HSE policies.
  • Maintain frequent communication with loading and receiving terminal operators (or buyer/seller trading operators and agents) to protect the Company's interests during contract execution.
  • Update loading results, invoicing, payments, and relevant transaction data in internal accounting systems.
  • Ensure loading activities are accurately reflected in the risk management system by reconciling and issuing contract confirmations daily.
  • Provide historical or statistical data and operational guidance for new contracts and implementation procedures.
  • Coordinate with Legal, Middle Office, and Back Office teams to ensure contracts are executed properly, invoices are reviewed, and reconciliations are completed.
  • Calculate demurrage and manage, follow up on, and defend claims in cases of disputes with counterparties.
  • Support Trading Systems and IT teams with ongoing improvements to proprietary software and hardware.

The jobholder will be responsible for:
  • Ensuring exceptional operational execution of commercial deals concluded by the Dry Products desk, in full alignment with negotiated contractual terms and day-to-day operational requirements.
  • Maintaining the operational integrity of all transactions to mitigate risk and prevent potential losses.
  • Interacting regularly with the Dry Products desk, terminal operators, and supplier/receiver trading operators to support smooth execution.
  • Demonstrating strong operational initiative and accountability within the U.S. geographic zone.
  • Adhering to all established operational protocols and procedures.


Candidate Profile

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in business, finance, or engineering.
  • English fluency required; additional languages such as Spanish or French are an asset.
  • 3-5 years of experience in a similar position.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge and understanding of various Dry products contracts.
  • In-depth understanding of domestic and international Dry products markets and the full value chain.
