Minimum qualifications:

Our Model Behavior and Design teams architect the fundamental interaction paradigms of Google's Search product. As the Director of UX for Model Behavior, you will bridge the gap between human-centered design and machine learning engineering. You will be responsible for shaping how users interact with our most advanced conversational agents and generative features-specifically defining the UX and behavioral heuristics for AI Overviews and AI Mode.

In this role, you will define the Search Model Behavior strategy, establishing the foundational frameworks for model persona, conversational architecture, and interaction principles. You will translate qualitative user needs into quantitative technical signals, ensuring that our AI experiences are helpful, safe, and deeply aligned with user intent.

Responsibilities
  • Partner directly with ML/Engineering leadership to embed UX principles into the model development lifecycle. Influence technical architecture by translating UX research into actionable protocols for model training, system prompting, Supervised Fine-Tuning (SFT), and Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLHF).
  • Own/scale overarching voice, tone, and behavioral policies of Search AI. Develop constitutional guidelines and conversational frameworks that dictate how the model responds to complex, ambiguous, or sensitive queries.
  • Define what "great" looks like across all AI surfaces. Establish rigorous qualitative rubrics and human-evaluation frameworks to continuously measure model output quality, reduce hallucinations, and mitigate bias.
  • Lead a multidisciplinary team of UI Designers, UX Researchers, Model Behavior Specialists, and Program Managers. Foster a collaborative culture that operates at the intersection of design, linguistics, artificial intelligence.
