What is the opportunity?

In this role, you will contribute to and draw upon the global expertise and resources of Canada's largest financial institution to tailor financial solutions to assist Canadian corporate clients in meeting their strategic objectives. You will support the Managing Director and will be accountable for successful achievement of goals and objectives, driving a high level of performance, a superior client experience and sustainable value creation for RBC shareholders. You will manage a portfolio of existing accounts, drive new client acquisitions, and provide ideas and advice that will achieve client's shareholder value objectives.

What will you do?
  • Part of a growing team of Relationship Managers committed to the origination and delivery of Corporate Financing, Advisory, Banking and Risk Management solutions to Canadian corporate enterprises in the Consumer and Retail sectors
  • Support the Corporate Client Group ("CCG") mandate to develop and maintain a business pipeline, win new business, grow P&L of existing portfolio, and work with partners to close transactions sufficient in number to meet revenue plans
  • Develop a strategic understanding of the client's business model, market position, and growth/divestiture plans. Understand opportunities and risks that will impact business performance
  • Develop a mutual understanding of client needs for creation, protection and realization of shareholder value. Achieve and maintain position as a trusted Financial Advisor
  • Engage with RBC partners and functions including CCG Finance, Treasury & Cash Management, Trade Finance, Enterprise Strategic Client Group, Wealth Management, CCG Mid-Market M&A, CCG Capital Partners, CCG Loan Syndications, CCG Portfolio Management
  • Develop and implement, working closely with RBC partners, robust strategies for each client and prospect, to meet identified needs, pitch ideas and maximize revenue and return on Equity ("ROE")
  • Ensure appropriate senior coverage with Managing Director, Relationship Management, CCG
  • Create and deliver a superior/full customer experience to each client through careful pre-call research and planning, a 'consulting' approach, and regular client relationship reviews with Ownership/Senior Executives
  • Monitor progress against client strategies regularly with partners and clients, evaluating success against revenue targets, and taking action as required
  • Work closely with our senior debt structuring and underwriting partner, CCG Finance, to ensure proper risk oversight
  • Complete weekly/monthly sales and market reports


What do you need to succeed?
  • Undergraduate degree with a focus in Business, Finance or Economics
  • 8+ years' experience in Corporate Banking, Investment Banking, Corporate Finance/Advisory
  • Analytical and technical skills and ability to quickly assess capital structure, financial requirements, and risk considerations
  • Fine-tuned sales and marketing orientation. Must possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Highly developed EQ and ability to navigate complex organizational dynamics
  • Highly developed and professional written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to perform well under pressure, meet time sensitive deadlines, prioritize work and multi-task responsibilities
  • Commitment to task and attention to detail
  • Commitment to the development of our junior colleagues


Nice to have:
  • Understanding and familiarity with RBC internal processes
  • MBA, CPA, CFA or other relevant professional designation
  • Corporate financing experience specifically within the consumer and retail sectors
  • Experience with complex enterprise-level sales involving long sales cycle (6 - 18 months) and multiple stakeholder groups
  • Experience with sales and/or servicing Founder/Owner, Shareholder, Board, C-suite level audiences
  • Capital markets experience or familiarity, specifically as it pertains to DCM, ECM, Securitization, Structured Finance solutions
