WHAT WILL YOU DO?

The Director, Operational Risk & Controls (ORC) Delivery will turn ORC Artificial Intelligence (AI) ambitions into a coherent, executable program. The role will lead early-stage analysis, requirements definition, and solution shaping across a strategic Operational Risk data provisioning point, Process Intelligence capabilities, uplift of risk data quality, and other initiatives according to RBC needs and direction in this space. The Director will also be responsible for managing a portion of the ORC project portfolio, which spans applications such as Archer, Policy & Procedure Library, and Riskonnect.

The Director, Operational Risk & Controls Delivery will also:
  • Leverage AI to ensure alignment across all projects while driving operational efficiency.
  • Implement and help the ORC Delivery Leads implement the new AI Development Lifecycle (AIDLC) which transforms the traditional technology implementation process to embed AI and be driven by AI capabilities.
  • Create stakeholder communications using AI-powered predictive analytics, intelligent automation, and data-driven decision support
  • Own end-to-end delivery of select Op Risk & Controls IT programs and projects, ensuring predictable execution, measurable outcomes, and alignment to enterprise priorities using appropriate delivery models (Agile, hybrid).
  • Establish and maintain program governance, integrating project plans, control points, and execution assurance across concurrent initiatives while managing scope, budget, timelines, and resource allocation.
  • Drive stakeholder alignment and communication across business and technology teams, delivering transparent progress updates, risk reporting, and financial forecasts to senior stakeholders; act as the critical link between business and technology priorities.
  • Deliver financial accountability by estimating project costs, monitoring actual spend against baselines, managing forecasts, and contributing to benefits realization and PAR processes.
  • Coach and mentor Op Risk & Controls Delivery Leads / Project Managers.
  • Provide leadership in ensuring best practices are followed for the development of solutions, and ensure compliance with RBC and ORC's project management philosophy and methodologies.
  • Consult and participate in assessing complex project issues and conflicts; acting as an escalation point.
  • Create executive-level materials to clearly articulate project portfolio health, status, risks & issues, or other relevant topics, for IT or Business management.


WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED?

Must-Have Skills:
  • 10+ years of technology program/project management experience with demonstrable experience in Agile Project Management.
  • Experience leading cross-functional programs and developing strategic metrics/KPIs to drive business outcomes, with expertise in planning and maintaining integrated program schedules, roadmaps, and executive-level status reporting.
  • Advanced proficiency with project delivery and collaboration tools (JIRA, Confluence, SharePoint, Visio) and strong visualization skills (PowerPoint executive presentations);
  • Hands-on experience with GenAI tools use in project management (Claude Code, Open AI, etc.).
  • Exceptional stakeholder management and interpersonal skills, with proven ability to lead cross-functional teams, navigate complexity and ambiguity, and influence business executives and project teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead large, high-visibility initiatives involving third-party vendors and major technology dependencies, maintaining strong control over quality, timeline, and integration outcomes.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate complex technical and business concepts clearly to diverse audiences at all levels.

Nice-to-Have Skills:
  • Project Management or Risk Management certifications (e.g., PMP, Certified Scrum Master).
  • Background in Business Analysis, Operations, Strategy, or Business/Technology Architecture.
  • Experience in requirements gathering, user story creation, impact analysis, and documentation.
  • Understanding of AI technologies, development lifecycle, and productionization challenges.
  • Familiarity with Responsible AI principles and governance frameworks.
  • Experience in banking, financial services, or regulated industries.
  • Hands-on experience with RBC's Agile frameworks (iWF, Business Agility) and enterprise project management tools (Planview, MS Project, MIS).
