About the role

The Director of Purchasing is a senior leadership role responsible for developing and executing the organization's procurement strategy, managing supplier relationships, and overseeing the end-to-end purchasing function. This individual will drive cost savings, source new suppliers, ensure supply chain continuity, and align purchasing activities with broader organizational goals. The Director of Purchasing leads a team of procurement professionals and collaborates cross-functionally with Product Development, Finance, Warehousing, and other departments.

What you'll do

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive procurement strategy aligned with organizational objectives and financial targets.
  • Establish and continuously improve purchasing policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Partner with executive leadership to support long-range planning, budgeting, and capital expenditure decisions.
  • Drive innovation in procurement processes through technology, automation, and data analytics.

Supplier & Vendor Management

  • Identify, evaluate, and manage strategic supplier relationships to ensure quality, cost, and delivery performance.
  • Negotiate and administer contracts, pricing agreements, and master service agreements with key vendors.
  • Conduct regular supplier performance reviews and develop scorecards to track KPIs.
  • Mitigate supply chain risk through supplier diversification, contingency planning, and risk assessments.

Cost Management & Financial Oversight

  • Lead cost reduction initiatives and track savings against established targets.
  • Oversee the annual purchasing budget and provide regular reporting to senior leadership.
  • Analyze spend data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities for consolidation or savings.
  • Ensure purchasing activities comply with financial controls and audit requirements.
  • Develop key metrics to rescue expenses and improve effectiveness


Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field (required).
  • MBA or advanced degree preferred.
  • CPSM, CPM, or CSCP certification is a plus.

Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive purchasing/procurement experience.
  • At least 5 years in a managerial or director-level role with direct team oversight.
  • Demonstrated success negotiating high-value contracts and managing complex supplier relationships.
  • Experience importing product from Asia and other parts of the world.
  • Experience in the water industry is preferred.

Skills & Competencies

  • Exceptional negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and financial acumen with experience in spend analysis and budgeting.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems (Sage, NetSuite, etc.) and procurement platforms.
  • Proven ability to lead organizational change and drive continuous improvement.
  • High integrity, with a commitment to ethical sourcing and compliance.
  • Mandarin proficiency is preferred.

The pay range for this role is:

140,000 - 155,000 USD per year (City of Industry)
