Full Job Description
The selected colleague will work at an MUFG office or client sites four days per week and work remotely one day. A member of our recruitment team will provide more details.

MUFG Americas is searching for a Philanthropy and Community Engagement Leader responsible for building and executing a MUFG Americas philanthropy strategy, volunteerism program, community engagement strategy, and grant allocation/management process. Responsibilities include creation of grant making protocols; managing internal controls, processes, and policies for corporate contributions, volunteer time off, data collection, vendor management, and reputation risk management. The Philanthropy and Community Engagement Leader will also play a critical role in ensuring the Americas philanthropy and community engagement strategy is aligned with global counterparts and competitors, including oversight of the EMEA CSR Team where appropriate to support cross-regional coordination, governance discipline, operating model consistency, impact measurement, and people development. This role may manage a small team and is accountable for developing team capability, clarifying ownership, and enabling effective execution across locations.

Responsibilities
  • Establish and operationalize an integrated philanthropy strategy aligned with the enterprise DEI strategy for MUFG Americas.
  • Builds, protects, and promotes the bank through leadership activities that satisfy societal needs in a way that complements stakeholder value.
  • Builds and manages positive relationships between the bank and all its business lines and the many communities and constituencies it serves by connecting the bank products, services and/or subject matter expertise with community priorities.
  • Represent the Bank and participate in community functions, committees, collaborations, and organizations.
  • Enhance and improve grants management processes and increase efficiency, which includes systems transformation and operations management.
  • Liaison with Third Parties, Business Line Leaders, Audit, Risk Management for the Americas, Procurement, Ops and Technology.
  • Support implementation, continuous improvement and ongoing management of the bank's grants management software systems.
  • Leads the collection and verification of relevant data specific to audits and required regulatory examinations, as needed.
  • Maintain up-to-date data on new platforms for tracking philanthropic and community engagement initiatives including grant making, corporate contributions, matching gifts, volunteer time off, and employee engagement.
  • Develop, manage, and reconcile annual philanthropy and community program budgets.
  • Coordinates quarterly reporting and financial recording with the Finance Department for board reports and audits.
  • Oversee and evaluate charitable giving requests and determine critical path for fulfillment, e.g., area committees, business lines, etc.
  • Lead periodic meetings of request reviewers to answer questions regarding the recipient organization, grant request, etc.
  • Own the community engagement governance and operating model, including standards, decision rights, escalation paths, process documentation, controls, and role clarity across teams and locations.
  • Establish and maintain consistent program governance practices for philanthropy, volunteerism, corporate contributions, matching gifts, employee engagement, and community investment activities.
  • Drive continuous improvement of community engagement processes, operating routines, and stakeholder engagement mechanisms to improve efficiency, accountability, and execution discipline.
  • Establish impact measurement frameworks, KPIs, dashboards, and executive reporting to evaluate community investment outcomes, employee engagement outcomes, operational performance, and alignment to business priorities.
  • Translate program data, community impact, employee participation, and budget utilization into insights for senior leadership, board reporting, audits, and strategic planning.
  • Partner with Finance, Risk, Audit, business lines, and regional stakeholders to ensure reporting is accurate, timely, and aligned with governance expectations.
  • Provide oversight of the EMEA CSR Team to support alignment of community engagement practices, governance expectations, controls, reporting standards, and cross-regional coordination.
  • Lead cross-regional coordination across Americas and EMEA CSR/community engagement teams, enabling local market customization while maintaining consistent operating standards and governance discipline.
  • Partners with Global DEI, Corporate Affairs, regional CSR leaders, and local stakeholders to align community engagement strategy with enterprise priorities while preserving regional nuance.
  • Manage, coach, and develop direct reports and team members, including setting priorities, clarifying ownership, supporting career development, and strengthening team capability.
  • Create clear accountability structures for team members, Site Champions, and cross-functional partners to ensure responsibilities, decision rights, and deliverables are well understood.
  • Support talent development, succession readiness, performance management, and capability-building across the community engagement function.
  • Engage with the Chief of Staff Community Engagement Team and Site Champions across respective locations to support local activation, stakeholder coordination, employee volunteer engagement, and feedback loops.


Qualifications
  • Bachelors, graduate degree (preferred) and/or equivalent combination of training in nonprofit management, community development and/or public affairs
  • 10+ years of professional experience in Philanthropy or Corporate Social Responsibility
  • Demonstrated success leading strategic and/or tactical plans relative to community outreach and engagement
  • Demonstrated success building and/or leading programs and initiatives developed in support of business objectives and aligned with charitable giving priorities
  • Excellent relationship builder and reputation risk manager
  • Knowledge of grant making including sponsorships, programs, employee engagement, and volunteer time off
  • Demonstrated passion for philanthropy, community engagement, and sustainability
  • General awareness of local and community organizations serving non-profit organizations and LMI communities strongly preferred.
  • Strong ability to build good networks with nonprofits in NYC, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Tampa, Boston, and California
  • Business experience and a strong understanding of the financial services industry required
  • Demonstrated experience managing, coaching, and developing teams, including setting priorities, building capability, clarifying ownership, and improving operating effectiveness.
  • Experience designing or leading governance frameworks, operating models, KPIs, dashboards, or executive reporting for community engagement, CSR, philanthropy, employee engagement, or related programs.
  • Experience providing oversight, coordination, or governance support for regional CSR or community engagement teams, including EMEA, preferred.
  • Experience working with Chief of Staff teams, Site Champions, business leaders, and cross-functional stakeholders to activate community engagement strategies across multiple locations preferred.

  • Technologically savvy; expert in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) with a good working knowledge of Teams and Virtual Applications


The typical base pay range for this role is between $180K - $210K depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location. This role may also be eligible for certain discretionary performance-based bonuses and/or incentive compensation.
