Full Job Description
Miles & Stockbridge is seeking a Director of Data Architecture & Strategy to provide strategic leadership and direction for the firm's firmwide data environment. This position will be responsible for developing and executing the firm's data strategy and establishing a comprehensive framework for how data is organized, stored, governed, protected, and used across the firm.

The Director of Data Architecture & Strategy will assess the firm's current data environment and develop a future-state data architecture and multi-year roadmap designed to improve the usability, accessibility, scalability, security, quality, and strategic value of the firm's data resources. This role serves as the senior advisor to the CIO on data matters, will chair the firm's Data Governance Committee, and partner closely with department leaders, subject matter experts, Director of Security and Privacy, and other stakeholders to establish firm and departmental data strategies.

The successful candidate will combine strategic thinking, data architecture expertise, project leadership, and strong relationship-management skills. This individual must be able to translate business requirements into practical data solutions and communicate complex technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and lead the firm's firmwide data strategy, ensuring alignment with business priorities, technology strategy, security requirements, and long-term organizational objectives.
  • Develop the firm's multi-year roadmap for improving the management and strategic use of firm data.
  • Evaluate data architecture alternatives and make recommendations regarding data warehouses, data lakes, lake houses, cloud-based data platforms, integration technologies, and other potential solutions based upon the firm's business requirements.
  • Lead and provide strategic direction for data architecture, data management, data integration, and data migration initiatives.
  • Establish architecture principles and standards that promote data quality, scalability, security, and appropriate reuse of data.
  • Establish and lead the firm's Data Governance Program and serve as Chair of the Data Governance Committee.
  • Develop governance standards and processes addressing data ownership, stewardship, classification, quality, access, retention, and appropriate use.
  • Partner with department leaders and subject matter experts to understand how individual business functions create, maintain, access, and use data and advise on the development of department-level data strategies.
  • Partner closely with the Director of Security and Privacy to ensure that data architecture, governance, access, storage, and use appropriately address information security, privacy, regulatory, and risk-management requirements.
  • Collaborate with technology teams to ensure that the firm's data architecture integrates effectively with the broader technology environment.
  • Evaluate and provide recommendations on data related technology solutions, consultants, and vendors.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, data management, information systems, business, or related discipline, equivalent experience will be considered.
  • 5+ years of managerial experience in data architecture, enterprise data management, data strategy, data governance, or related functions.
  • Experience working in a law firm, professional services organization, or other environment involving highly confidential or regulated information is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience developing or significantly contributing to an enterprise data strategy and enterprise data architecture.
  • Strong understanding of modern data architecture concepts, including data warehouses, data lakes, lake houses, cloud data platforms, data modeling, integration, APIs, data lifecycle management, etc.
  • Experience leading data governance programs and establishing standards for data ownership, stewardship, quality, classification, access, and management.
  • Experience leading complex data transformation, migration, integration, or modernization initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate business requirements into enterprise data architecture and technology recommendations.
  • Strong project and program management capabilities, including experience leading complex, cross-functional initiatives.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and relationship building and management skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with senior executives, technical professionals, department leaders, and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to build consensus and drive organizational change without necessarily having direct authority over all participating resources.

The pay range for this position is $190,000 - $225,000. The pay range provided is in compliance with state, city, or local employment laws and applies to this location only. Actual pay for this position will be determined based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, knowledge, skills, abilities, experience, current market data, and business needs.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to push, pull, lift, and move up to 25 pounds. The employee is frequently required to walk, stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, and repeat motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
