Full Job Description
Director of Client Development/Relationships to lead business development efforts for our Civic practice throughout Southern California. This high-impact leadership role is responsible for cultivating client relationships, identifying new business opportunities, and advancing the firm's presence within the public sector across the region.

Working closely with firm leadership, the Director of Client Development/Relationships will help shape and execute market growth strategies, strengthen relationships with existing and prospective clients, and position the firm for continued success in the civic market. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with a proven ability to build trusted partnerships, navigate complex pursuits, and deliver measurable business results.

Key Responsibilities

Drive Business Development Strategy
  • Partner with firm leadership to develop and execute business development strategies that align with the firm's strategic objectives and Civic market growth initiatives.
  • Identify emerging market trends, client opportunities, and strategic partnerships that strengthen the firm's position throughout the Southern California region.
  • Maintain a robust pipeline of qualified opportunities to support sustainable growth.


Cultivate Meaningful Client Relationships
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with public-sector clients, agency leaders, and key community stakeholders.
  • Generate new business opportunities through strategic networking, market research, and proactive outreach.
  • Represent the firm at industry conferences, professional organizations, and community events.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor by understanding client priorities and identifying solutions that align with their objectives.

Support Pursuit and Growth Initiatives
  • Collaborate with the National Market Leader, Director of Strategy, and Principals to develop compelling pursuit strategies and client engagement plans.
  • Tell the firm's story by clearly articulating our expertise, capabilities, and vision to prospective clients and industry stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the development of tailored solutions that address client needs and support successful project pursuits.

Qualifications & Skills

The successful candidate will possess a combination of strategic business development expertise, strong relationship management skills, and a thorough understanding of the public-sector marketplace. Ideal candidates will have:
  • 10+ years of business development experience within the architecture, engineering, and construction (A/E/C) industry or local government.
  • An established network of relationships within the Southern California public sector.
  • A proven track record of identifying opportunities, developing client relationships, achieving business development targets, and fueling measurable business growth.
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to identify opportunities, influence decision-makers, and support long-term growth initiatives.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Experience utilizing CRM platforms and other business development tools.
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly throughout the Southern California region.

Salary Range
  • $120 - $160k base salary plus incentives
