The Role:

Leads and oversees Investment Support and Estates in Canada ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed / delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures across a multi-country footprint.

Customer-Centric Leadership
  • Lead and foster a strong customer-focused culture across the unit, deepening client relationships and leveraging broader Bank systems, partnerships, and knowledge.


Strategic Direction & Oversight
  • Provide strategic and tactical leadership to the following functions: Dealer Services Unit (Transfers, Investment Services, Corporate & Commercial Investments), RESP/RDSP Centre, Taxation Department, Advisor Deposit Services, and Mutual Fund Company , Estates Management


Service Delivery & Business Partnership
  • Lead the evolution and continuous improvement of the unit's service offerings by:
    • Delivering expert, timely guidance to business partners on investment services policies, procedures, and regulatory/compliance matters.
    • Ensuring consistent, high-quality service delivery and maintaining comprehensive documentation across all service offerings within the Scotiabank Group.
    • Establishing, monitoring, and reporting on service level agreements (SLAs) and operational performance commitments.
    • Proactively managing and resolving complex or escalated issues in a cost-effective and client-focused manner.
    • Maintaining strong governance with outsourcers and vendors, ensuring service standards are met and issues are appropriately escalated.


Business Plan Execution
  • Lead execution of the unit's business plan by:
    • Monitoring and reporting on service trends, audit findings, expenses, and operational losses in accordance with policies and timelines.
    • Managing and tracking expense plans to ensure alignment with financial targets.
    • Developing and implementing customer communication strategies to enhance product support and departmental visibility
    • Driving product positioning strategies and executing priority initiatives.
    • Enhancing customer retention through underwriting reviews, cancellation analysis, and proactive retention strategies in collaboration with key partners (Retail Deposits, Investments, Scotia Securities, and Commercial/Corporate teams).
    • Supporting business lines to deliver seamless investment support and elevate the overall customer experience.
    • Proactively managing and ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements.


Operational Management & Continuous Improvement
  • Lead monitoring, analysis, and reporting of operational and financial performance across the Investment Support unit by:
    • Ensuring services consistently meet quality standards and comply with internal policies and external regulatory requirements.
    • Providing leadership on compliance matters, including AML/ATF, CDIC, privacy, and broader regulatory frameworks.
    • Acting as a subject matter expert to support business partners on investment and Estate services and transaction processing.


Leadership & Talent Development
  • Build and lead a high-performing team by:
    • Clearly communicating accountabilities, objectives, and performance expectations for all direct reports.
    • Delivering ongoing coaching and fostering continuous development across the organization.
    • Implementing structured talent development and succession planning strategies.
    • Promoting open, transparent communication and awareness of employee support frameworks (e.g., Pathways to Resolution).
    • Ensuring hiring practices align with Bank standards and promote diversity and inclusion.
    • Maintaining regular communication rhythms to support engagement and alignment across the team.


Risk Management & Governance
  • Integrate the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture into all decisions and daily activities.
  • Ensure effective operational controls and adherence to frameworks governing operational risk, regulatory compliance, AML/ATF, and conduct risk, including applicable policies and guidelines.


People Strategy & Culture
  • Foster an inclusive, high-performance culture that attracts, retains, and develops top talent.
  • Align team efforts with the Bank's vision, values, and strategic priorities while advancing succession and development planning


Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? - We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Management, Finance or MBA with a minimum 10 years of relevant experience.
  • In addition, Ability to manage multiple priorities, concurrent projects and implementations of varying complexities
  • Effective problem-solving capabilities and ability to think and influence strategically
  • Excellent presentation, written and verbal communication skills to interact with Bank Executives
  • Knowledge of the Bank's purpose, business objectives, policies, philosophies and operating standards.
  • Proven ability to foster and develop a strong team environment and relationships.
  • Solid negotiation and influencing skills to be applied across all functional areas.
  • Strong and well-developed relationship building and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong knowledge of investment products and services and operational platform.
  • Strong business acumen with a keen focus on client services and business results.
  • Strong diagnostic skills followed by good ability to evaluate options / alternatives and develop solutions / recommendations for solutions to complex and multi-dimensional problems / issues.
  • Strong project management experience and effective leadership skills to ensure execution of successful delivery/implementation of initiatives, products, processes and policies.
  • Education in business and/or finance an asset.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is considered an asset, but not required
