Full Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY

McCarthy is seeking a strategic, relationship-focused Director, Human Resources to partner with leaders and employees across the Central Region. Working with the Regional HR Vice President and business leadership, this role develops and implements talent strategies that support business growth, operational excellence, and a Smart and Healthy Culture.

The Director serves as both a strategic adviser and hands-on HR leader, providing counsel on day-to-day matters while driving workforce planning, talent development, engagement, and culture initiatives. The role also leads, coaches, and develops HR professionals across the region.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Serve as a trusted adviser and coach to senior leaders and managers; provide sound counsel on organizational and employee matters.
  • Translate current and future business needs into talent strategies that support engagement, development, motivation, retention, and team effectiveness.
  • Co-lead workforce planning, succession planning, talent reviews, performance management, and the annual compensation and reward processes.
  • Oversee core HR programs, including onboarding, employee experience, employee relations, learning and development, engagement, culture, communication, compensation, benefits, and compliance.
  • Manage complex employee relations matters in partnership with Legal and HR colleagues, ensuring timely, consistent, and well-documented resolutions.
  • Partner with Talent Acquisition and Learning & Organizational Development to deliver solutions aligned with business goals.
  • Lead, coach, mentor, and develop HR business partners, generalists, and specialists; establish accountability and support team succession planning.
  • Ensure accurate and confidential employee data, review HR metrics such as headcount and turnover, and use trends to recommend solutions.
  • Influence business and talent decisions, lead organizational change, and contribute HR insights to strategic planning and the annual operating plan.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field required; master's degree preferred.
  • Ten or more years of progressive HR experience with demonstrated team leadership; regional or multi-site experience preferred.
  • Broad knowledge of employee relations, compensation and benefits, talent management, learning and development, organizational development, and compliance.
  • Strong business acumen and demonstrated ability to use HR data to inform decisions and drive results.
  • Ability to build trust and credibility with employees, managers, and executives; influence leaders and lead change in a complex environment.
  • Excellent communication, listening, consultation, presentation, judgment, organization, and prioritization skills.
  • Construction or related industry experience is helpful, but not required.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25%.
