The role

As a Director Engineering you will lead and oversee Insurance Regional Platforms in International Banking ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed / delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

  • Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Establish and evolve the culture and recruitment practices team, focusing on positioning the Insurance Technology team as a leading-edge organization that attracts, retains, develops and motivates the team by fostering an inclusive work environment; communicating vison/values and business strategy of Scotiabank and IB Technology and managing succession and development planning for the team that will be delivering projects for the International Bank.
  • Ability to lead and influence teams that do not report directly to them.
  • Maintain/enhance subject matter expertise for the Insurance Team by staying current with evolving industry best practices in technology and technology people management, deploying relevant learning's, tools or methodologies.
  • Provides guidance and innovative thought leadership.
  • Support the Scotiabank IT strategy with a clear value proposition, methodologies, training, tracking, communication at all levels, and change management.
  • Work with business partners and functions in achieving cost efficiencies while driving innovation and aligning to the needs of both internal and external customers.
  • Lead and drive a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Technical experience to lead a technical team and ensure the results in a specific application if necessary
  • Hands on experience and wiliness to get into the detail as necessary in order to solve complex issues
  • Creates an environment in which their team pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
  • Builds a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviors; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and managing succession and development planning for team.


Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role?

We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • Degree in Engineering or Computer Science or equivalent.
  • Management or related fields - 10+ years on Information Technology, including Agile Development and Deployment, Dev Ops and Testing methodologies
  • Knowledge of Insurance business will be an asset.
  • Progressive business experience and at least 5 years' experience at a Senior Management level in IT units
  • Application Development/Testing/Support areas and/or Program Management working experience. Previous experience in banking IT implementation/merger/integration projects and/or divesture would be an asset.
  • Proven senior management experience in leading matrix styled organizations and having the ability to strategically influence both team members, colleagues, and Bank stakeholders
  • Experienced in leading transformational projects, large and multi-disciplined projects, preferably in financial sector.
  • Being bilingual is a necessary skill.
  • Proven experience leading major initiatives across different countries and supervising several project teams from multiple business/support functions
