About the role
- Set the strategic direction for Zillow's accounting function, aligning policies, processes, and controls with corporate objectives and financial governance requirements.
- Lead enterprise-wide accounting operations, including the close process, consolidation, and preparation of external and internal financial statements in accordance with US GAAP and applicable regulatory standards.
- Oversee design, implementation, and ongoing enhancement of accounting policies, internal controls, and SOX-compliant processes to safeguard assets and ensure data integrity.
- Partner with Finance, Tax, Treasury, FP&A, and business leaders to evaluate complex transactions, support business initiatives, and provide clear, decision-ready accounting guidance.
- Direct the evaluation and optimization of accounting systems and related technology, ensuring integrations and workflows are efficient, scalable, and well documented.
- Develop and manage the accounting organization's structure, budget, and performance metrics, ensuring effective resource allocation and operational excellence.
- Build, mentor, and retain a high-performing, inclusive accounting team through clear expectations, coaching, and ongoing development opportunities.

This role has been categorized as a Remote position. "Remote" employees do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and, instead, work from a physical location of their choice, which must be identified to the Company. U.S. employees may live in any of the 50 United States, with limited exceptions.

In California, Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Washington state, and Washington DC the standard base pay range for this role is $160,500.00 - $256,500.00 annually. This base pay range is specific to these locations and may not be applicable to other locations.In Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Minnesota, Nevada, Ohio, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Virginia the standard base pay range for this role is $152,500.00 - $243,700.00 annually. The base pay range is specific to these locations and may not be applicable to other locations.

In addition to a competitive base salary this position is also eligible for equity awards based on factors such as experience, performance and location. Actual amounts will vary depending on experience, performance and location. Employees in this role will not be paid below the salary threshold for exempt employees in the state where they reside.

Who you are
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 12+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 5+ years leading accounting teams.
- Demonstrated experience owning the accounting close, consolidation, and external reporting processes for a complex or high-growth organization.
- Proven track record implementing or enhancing accounting systems, controls, and SOX-compliant processes in partnership with cross-functional stakeholders.
- Experience in a public company environment and familiarity with SEC reporting requirements preferred.
- Experience in technology, SaaS, or digital marketplace businesses is preferred.
