The Product Realization and Reliability Office (PRRO) in Nuclear Production Operations consists of a multidisciplinary group of engineers and scientists that support plutonium programs (i.e., pit production, surveillance, research & development, and subcritical experiments) across the entire Nuclear Production Operations organization.

The PRRO Office is seeking a digital engineering technologist to support standardization of process and data usage in support of factory floor improvements. The objective of this role is to standardize information collection practices, engineer solutions for leveraging the data to drive factory floor change, and link the information with other systems (PLM/MRP/MES/RMS etc.). This position will primarily consist of office work with occasional shop floor interactions. The technologist position will provide as-needed support to different digital engineering initiatives and achieve a broad understanding of the digital engineering domain. Training for specific digital engineering capabilities will be provided.

Digital Engineering Technologist 1 - Engineering Technologist 1 ($87,800 - $143,000)

The selected candidate will be responsible for-

  • Supporting the development of continuous improvement opportunities that leverage digital engineering capabilities
  • Supporting migration of current engineering practice into information-centric systems and demonstrating the full usage of those systems.
  • Supporting capability leads in exercising specific digital engineering capabilities from concept through to production implementation
  • Supporting nuclear production workforce in using digital engineering capabilities (PLM, RMS, MBSE, etc.)
  • Supporting requirements gathering and user feedback collection from nuclear production workforce


Digital Engineering Technologist 2 - Engineering Technologist 2 ($96,600 - $158,000)

In addition to the responsibilities of the Digital Engineering Technologist 1, the selected candidate will be responsible for-

  • Supporting system configuration, upgrades, and reviews of change proposals.
  • Participating in enterprise level discussions to represent Nuclear Production needs and ensure local awareness of enterprise direction.
  • Leading small group training sessions for new capabilities.

This position will be filled at either the Engineering Technologist 1/Engineering Technologist 2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Engineering Technologist 1:

  • Strong documentation skills; demonstrated ability to document technical results in a formal method/format
  • Demonstrated proficiency in at least one engineering software tool set (e.g. CAD, PDM, requirements management, modeling & simulation)
  • Ability to obtain a Q clearance, which typically requires US Citizenship.


Additional Job Requirements for Engineering Technologist 2:

  • Experience with requirements management, process planning, or work instruction writing.
  • Familiarity with the product realization process within the nuclear security enterprise.
  • Demonstrated ability to break moderately complex tasking into actionable self-tasks, and execute with minimal supervision.


Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology, Science, Math, or related degree from an accredited institution and 2 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Education/Experience at the higher level: Position requires a Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology, Science, Math or related degree and 5 years of directly related experience; or, an equivalent combiation of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Proactive mindset with a passion for driving continuous improvement and operational excellence in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with private industry production and continuous improvement.
  • Familiarity with formal requirements management systems (e.g. DOORS Next Generation, PTC CodeBeamer), product lifecycle management systems (e.g. Windchill, TeamCenter), or MRP systems a plus.
  • Experience with Confluence and Jira a plus.
  • Strong presentation skills


Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
