Job Description

The Garrett Motion E-Cooling GBE develops new products for the refrigeration industry. We are expanding our team at our Torrance, California in support of expanding the product portfolio and working closely with US based customers.

The Development Engineer will be part of a cross-functional team and be responsible for the design and industrialization of industrial refrigeration compressors. Work includes end to end development in all its aspects from early concept to product validation and to product launch. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a growing technology in the automotive market at a well-established company in the industry.

The successful candidate will bring experience in turbomachinery and be comfortable in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Development of industrial refrigerant compressors in line with customer requirements and industry standards
  • Coordinate activities with design (2D/3D), simulation (CFD, FEA, etc.), manufacturing, and suppliers to achieve competitive performance while creating production viable components
  • Generate DFMEA and execute DVP&R. Prepare prototype hardware, organize testing, analysis and create technical reports.
  • Prepare documentation (design decisions, manufacturing, etc.) as needed to ensure design information is shared consistently and lessons learned are captured
  • Drive field or launch issue resolution following 8D process using root cause analysis tools (5WHY, Ishikawa, Knowledge Card, etc.) and document accordingly
  • Generate VE ideas contributing to cost reduction of the product in terms of design, materials and processes, and execute actions to turn these ideas into implementation.
  • Insure compliance of the product to applicable industry standards and support certification of the product with relevant authorities (UL, CE, etc.)
  • Initiate and execute benchmarking activity related to his component & discipline

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor or master's degree in mechanical engineering or other related engineering discipline
  • 5 years of experience in developing turbomachinery
  • Team player, growth oriented and capable of working in a small highly engaged team
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills for internal and external communication

Additional Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience in refrigeration compressors (centrifugal, scroll, screw,...)
  • Experience in high speed electric motors and hydrodynamic bearings
  • Experience with casting, machining, and assembly of hardware
  • Experience with FEA and/or CFD simulation tools
  • Six Sigma certification

Pay Range

The salary range for this role is between $117,300 and $146,700.

*Note that this range represents the pay range for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. Starting rate of pay may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, position offered, education, training, and/or experience.

In addition to the annual base salary this role offers the below:
