Role Overview

The Desktop Engineer II is responsible for managing and supporting a large-scale Microsoft endpoint environment, including SCCM, Intune, Windows operating systems, patching, software deployments, and endpoint security for over 2,000 devices. The position provides advanced Tier 3 support, leverages PowerShell automation, and maintains key technologies such as Azure, Active Directory, Group Policy, SQL reporting, and mobile device management. The ideal candidate will drive desktop standards and best practices, support infrastructure and operating system upgrades, and contribute to project and change management initiatives. Strong troubleshooting, collaboration, and communication skills are essential, along with participation in after-hours support for critical incidents.

How You'll Make an Impact:
  • SCCM environment management
  • OSD and related troubleshooting
  • Software packaging and automation heavily utilizing PowerShell.
  • Driver package management
  • Managing client hardware specifications
  • Infrastructure management, including distribution points, management points, cloud management gateways, SQL servers, and WSUS servers.
  • Windows patch management and deployment
  • Device co-management with Intune
  • SQL reports for business data requests
  • Troubleshooting and maintaining the environment
  • Windows Operating System environment management, including version upgrades.
  • Windows Defender configurations and deployments
  • Intune MDM for Android/iOS for personal and corporate devices
  • Azure resource and services management
  • Group Policy Management
  • Ability to develop and manage standard practices for software deployments for over 2,000+ clients.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills in areas of client endpoints and ability to act as tier 3 support.
  • Understanding of OSI Model • DNS, DHCP, Active Directory Management, and Windows Server understanding
  • Client Privilege Management including utilizing BeyondTrust Privilege Management
  • Experience planning, researching, and developing desktop policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Scripting experience including PowerShell, batch, etc.
  • Dashboard experience preferred - I.e., PowerBI, SCOM, etc.
  • Due to the critical nature of this position, you will be expected to be available 24x7 days a week in the event of a significant issue or critical downtime.
  • Your position requires travel to the West Michigan area and occasional travel out of the local service area.
  • You must be available via phone and immediate contact methods need to be established to ensure a proper operating response in the event of critical downtime. JR Automation will provide a cellphone or reimbursement for such support.
