Full Job Description
JOB DUTIES - ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

A Designer IV provides senior-level Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) support at the project level for various engineering sections preparing designs, working drawings, cost analysis, and feasibility in the exploitation of mechanical and electronic systems. Working efforts have an impact on the adequacy and capabilities of design to include safety, economy, efficiency, types and systems to be developed or installed.

Employee will be responsible to perform the following functions/duties:
  • Work independently to provide design coordination and direction for major projects and/or product development
  • May be given complete responsibility for large complex design projects
  • Work from rough engineering notes, drawings, sketches and/or verbal instructions to design, develop, and create complex electromechanical designs, products, and system exploitation
  • Study engineering texts, periodicals, manufacturer publications, and other technical material to obtain pertinent data and specifications for design development
  • Collaborate with engineering staff to interpret design concepts
  • Perform original design work
  • Perform complex calculations and work with advanced finite element analysis (FEA) data sets to verify specifications, size/material selection, and overall design parameters
  • Perform a high degree of visualization, motion analysis, and simulation to insure functionality
  • Specify components with a broad understanding of design requirements, objectives, and availability
  • Investigate pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, materials, interchangeability, replaceability, serviceability, tooling, and equipment
  • Make studies of concept feasibility, manufacturing options, and costing estimates
  • Review work in progress to ensure conformance with plans and make recommendations as to the suitability of new processes and methods
  • Evaluate results and prepare operational reports and recommend changes in procedures
  • Provide leadership, direction, and mentoring to lower-level designers and drafting personnel, coordinating, assigning, and checking their work
  • Perform other job-related duties, as required

RANGE POSITION DESCRIPTION

Minimum Desired Experience

The candidate shall have:
  • Experience using CAD software to create, revise, and maintain technical drawings with limited supervision.
  • Experience developing and maintaining floor plans, equipment layouts, rack elevations, and related technical drawings.
  • Experience updating electrical, mechanical, infrastructure, and system diagrams to reflect approved configurations.
  • Ability to maintain accurate as-built drawings following installations, modifications, facility changes, and equipment relocations.
  • Experience incorporating approved engineering and configuration changes into controlled drawings and technical documentation.
  • Experience supporting equipment installation, renovation, MILCON, or technology-refresh planning efforts.
  • Experience preparing and maintaining Bills of Material (BOMs), equipment lists, and installation documentation.
  • Ability to maintain organized drawing libraries and documentation repositories in accordance with document control practices.
  • Ability to coordinate with engineers, technicians, facilities staff, and project stakeholders to ensure drawing accuracy and completeness.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently on multiple drafting and documentation tasks.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

The candidate should have:
  • Experience supporting facilities, infrastructure, and mission systems in a technical or engineering environment.
  • Familiarity with configuration management and controlled-document processes.
  • Experience maintaining as-built and controlled drawings in support of engineering or infrastructure programs.
  • Experience supporting MILCON, renovation, modernization, or installation projects.
  • Familiarity with electrical, mechanical, and infrastructure documentation standards.
  • Experience supporting project planning through drawing development, equipment documentation, and technical record maintenance.
  • Ability to review drawing packages for completeness, consistency, and adherence to approved changes.

REQUIREMENTS - EDUCATION, TECHNICAL, AND WORK EXPERIENCE

A master's degree is preferred. A bachelor's degree in design, drafting, or an engineering field and 14 years of design experience with a minimum of four (4) years of experience working at an engineering level as a technical authority or project leader are required for this position. Design experience can be a combination of direct design experience, advance design drafting, or schooling.

In addition, a Designer IV must possess the following qualifications:
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Planning/organizational skills
  • Ability to work under deadlines
  • Must possess a valid, state issued driver's license
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain security clearance
  • Must be a U.S. citizen

SALARY

The expected salary range for this position is $125,000 to $160,000 annually.

JT4, LLC considers factors such as (but not limited to) responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and business considerations when extending an offer.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is performed in a typical office environment with no unusual hazards. Occasional lifting (up to 30 pounds), constant sitting while using the computer terminal, constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, and constant mental alertness are required.

Travel to remote company work locations may be required.
