What You Will Be DoingThe Hardware Design Engineering Team is seeking a Senior Hardware Design Engineer - Interconnects to join our team. As a member of the Hardware Design Engineering Team, you will be a driving force of innovation and help build the future of electric vehicle charging.
The Senior Hardware Engineer will play a direct role in the mechanical design and execution of ChargePoint's products. We are seeking a confident and personable engineer who has exceptional product design and development experience, including design for manufacturing, design for cost and assembly, and production tooling development, with a proven track record of delivering world-class products in cross-functional teams.
What You Will Bring to ChargePointAs a Senior Hardware Engineer, your responsibilities will focus on the design and manufacturability of current production and new products:
- Own the electromechanical design for high-voltage conductors, cables, interconnects, mechanical parts, and subsystems in EV chargers
- Take electrical schematics and convert them into cable harness drawings and wiring diagrams
- Interface with suppliers to efficiently execute designs into mass production
- Identify design opportunities for quality, cost, assembly, and manufacturing
- Perform root cause and failure analysis on current products
Requirements- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- Minimum 4-8 years of industry experience in a Mechanical Engineering, Electrical, or Harness Design role
- Strong working knowledge of cable design, grounding, shielding, injection molding, CNC machining, sheet metal, aluminum die casting and extrusion, cosmetic part finishing, and mass production processes
- Skilled in rapid prototyping as well as in mechanical testing methodology and equipment
- A self-starter who is comfortable driving multiple parts and aspects of the product design process simultaneously
- Ability to learn quickly and operate outside of your comfort zone
- Proficient in CAD (NX highly preferred, others accepted)
- Proficient in cable routing tools
- Ability to review and optimize 2D drawings, including understanding tolerances of various manufacturing methods and GD&T
