Job Summary
This position works with occasional supervision or direction to perform assigned tasks and coordinate assigned initiatives through completion. The position will maintain effective working relationships with others.

As an Electrical/Instrumentation & Control (I&C) Systems Engineer at the Perry Nuclear Power Plant in Perry, Ohio your responsibilities will include leading in the development of solutions to system issues in support of plant operations and maintenance during both outage and non-outage periods.

Job Description

Key Accountabilities:
  • Maintain plant configuration control by advocating for the site's Design Bases
  • Provide technical expertise for electrical plant equipment issues on problem solving and troubleshooting teams.
  • Prepare plant improvement design modifications that have been approved by the Plant Health Committee, calculations, specifications, technical reports and presentations. Modifications include both those that can be installed online along with outage modifications that require a refueling outage for implementation.
  • Perform equivalency modifications for obsolete equipment with Procurement Engineering for Form, Fit, and Function determination
  • Act as the primary technical contact for vendor personnel performing outsourced engineering work
  • Coordinate owner's acceptance reviews of products developed by external consulting service companies contracted by Perry for capital projects.
  • Developing and completing investigations and corrective actions in accordance with the Corrective Action Program.
  • Providing support for interface with regulatory and oversight agencies including Nuclear Regulatory Commission Inspections.
  • Performing field walk-downs and interfacing with other groups to resolve emergent and routine plant issues and support appropriate constructability of modifications
  • Performing audits, observations, surveys and assessments of plant activities such as maintenance and operations.
  • Pursuing opportunities to improve site human performance.
  • Reviewing and analyzing plant operating characteristics and both Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and Industry correspondence to identify operating experiences that may be pertinent to or will aid in the resolution of plant issues applicable to assigned systems.
  • Reviewing schedules and work orders to ensure efficient work implementation and technical adequacy of legacy engineering change packages
  • Championing ownership of design change improvements and cross-departmental interfaces.
  • Demonstrating a solid commitment to all aspects of safety e.g. nuclear, industrial, personal, radiological, etc.
  • Actively seeking formal and informal learning opportunities to better understand technical policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Developing effective working relationships with employees within you own work group and establishing a professional network
  • Performing Emergency Response Organization (ERO) and duty team duties as assigned.
  • Develop changes to existing design drawings or the creation of new drawings.


Education, Experience, and Skill Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering required; (Electrical Engineering preferred)
  • Experience with electrical and/or I&C systems design at a nuclear facility is preferred.
  • Prior professional-level engineering experience is preferred.
  • Prior plant design engineering experience, including experience with electrical, mechanical and I&C components, is preferred.
  • Being able to work independently in leadership and mentoring roles with little Supervisory involvement is preferred.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Prior experience with Electrical Transient Analysis Program (ETAP) and Microstation Cad Software are preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and strong analytical ability.
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships with all employees at Energy Harbor
  • Able to deliver quality and accurate work within established deadlines.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with ability to make formal technical presentations to various management levels.
  • Ability to work extended hours, shift schedules and perform on-call duties when necessary.
