The Non-Destructive Assay and Vault Operations Group (NDA-VO) at Los Alamos National Laboratory is seeking a deputy group leader to help strengthen our operational effectiveness across our team. NDA-VO manages the Special Nuclear Material Vault as well as performing non-destructive assay (NDA) measurements for production and waste operations in the Weapons Production Directorate.

The Deputy Group Leader will support the group leader in the daily management of 70 group members, with responsibilities spanning staff mentoring and coaching, safe and compliant conduct of operations, scope/budget management, and driving process improvements. This is a key leadership role within a group whose work directly supports the Laboratory's national security mission.

Minimum Job Requirements

Organizational Leadership: Demonstrated leadership guiding people, teams and systems safety and compliantly in a nuclear work environment. Proven ability to initiate and execute employee development plans & production goals.

Technical Competency: Thorough knowledge of safety management programs in a nuclear facility. In-depth understanding of NDA methods, practices and control of nuclear material inventory.

Business Competency: Demonstrated expertise in financial and human resource management, procurement, and reporting of performance metrics.

Strategic Planning Proficiency: Support the organization's mission and strategic vision, ensuring that objectives are tied to long-term success and national priorities. Foster a culture that embraces new priorities and adapts to evolving strategic needs.

Clearance and Mandatory Certifications: Ability to obtain and maintain a Q-clearance.

Education/Experience: Position requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and 5 years of relevant experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

• Experience improving process efficiency
• Ability to oversee readiness activities for new operational startup.

Work Environment: This position requires a combination of office work and on-site performance of duties inside the nuclear facility. May require extended work hours, work near sources of ionizing radiation, personal protective equipment such as safety glasses or eye protection, anti-contamination clothing, safety shoes, protective footwear and full-face respirators. Occasional travel may be required.

Work Location: This position will be in Los Alamos, NM.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

426.2: This position is subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities, which establishes entry-level requirements to ensure candidates selected for specific positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Incentive Compensation Program: Position is eligible to participate in the Triad Incentive Compensation Program. You must be in an eligible position for a minimum of 3 months, before July 1st and remain in an eligible position as of the end of the fiscal year, September 30th. The annual distribution is prorated based on the number of months in the eligible position.
