Job DescriptionThe Deputy Director of Strategic Staffing will play a transformative role in enhancing the future of educator effectiveness in Texas. This role will lead the strategic and operational development and execution of the state strategic staffing strategy that influences Texas LEAs, EPP partners, and other critical entities to design and implement innovative staffing approaches that enable prepared teachers in local talent pathways.
The deputy director will build the capacity of Education Service Centers (ESCs) to be the bestinclass providers of Texas Strategic Staffing technical assistance by leading the service's ongoing design and implementation to enable partnerships to sustainably fund robust talent pathways. The person will lead and oversee priority workstreams within the Strategic Staffing strategic initiative, including the design and management of the statewide Texas Strategic Staffing technical assistance provider network across ESCs, and collaborate with senior leaders within the agency to ensure alignment with and inform other strategic initiatives.
The deputy director will perform advanced managerial work under limited supervision. They will be responsible for communication and interaction with state leaders, including Education Service Center leaders, as well as influential external policy leaders and philanthropic organizations. The deputy director will lead a team and report to the Director of Strategic Staffing & Operations.
This position requires up to 25% travel, based on business needs, to support program initiatives, collaboration, and operational priorities.Flexible work location within the state of Texas may be considered for qualified candidates.Please note that a resume and cover letter are required attachments for applying to this position. 1 Texas Strategic Staffing Expansion: Lead the overall expansion of Texas Strategic Staffing to include support for LEA staffing and scheduling strategic planning, with a focus on talent pathway development. This will also include internal departmental coordination, the development of a cohesive communication and marketing plan for LEAs, EPPs, and other key stakeholders, and the coordination of aligned incentives, such as ESC training grants and resources.
2 Technical Assistance Provider Management: Develops and implements goals and objectives for technical assistance service partnerships with technical assistance providers for strategic staffing services, to ensure quality development of the Texas Strategic Staffing service model across the state.
3 ESC Performance Management (Texas Strategic Staffing): Drive quality service delivery by ESCs through maintaining and improving systems of coaching, performance management, and continued training support for Texas Strategic Staffing services, including communication and planning with ESC leadership.
4 Change Management and Stakeholder Engagement: Build statewide investment in the state's strategy for strategic staffing approaches through short and longterm change management, strong relationship building and ongoing collaboration with key internal and external stakeholders, and consistent, clear communication with the field. This includes responses to EPP, LEA, ESC, teacher candidate, and stakeholder concerns and requests.
5 Team Management and Supervision: Manages and supports a team to establish and implement a vision for continuous improvement and effective talent systems work performed.
QualificationsMinimum QualificationsEducation: Graduation from an accredited fouryear college or university
Experience: At least five (5) years of experience in education with direct experience with district operations, staffing and scheduling redesign, and funding models that support systems to prepare, develop, mentor, and coach teachers and teacher leaders

- Deep knowledge of district and campus leadership best practices
- Knowledge of best practices in educator preparation, support, and development
- Demonstrated record of effective project management skills and attention to detail, including establishing outcomes, determining evaluative measures, and tracking progress with periodic job and task ambiguity
- Proven change management and stakeholder engagement skills, including small and large group facilitation and adult professional development
- Effective written and verbal communication skills and a proven ability to maintain consistent followthrough and professional reliability in a small team with interdependent deliverables
- Skill in reviewing plans, documents, and drafts to provide highquality feedback both verbally and in writing
- Skill in synthesizing complex ideas into practical and accessible language verbally and through Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Strong analytical and conceptual thinking skills
- Highly organized; ability to successfully prioritize work and manage multiple priorities
New hires, rehires, and internal hires will typically receive a starting salary between the posted minimum and the average pay of employees within the same classification. Offers are based on the candidate's experience and qualifications and consider internal pay equity across employees performing similar work.
The top half of the posted salary range is generally reserved for candidates whose qualifications exceed the role's requirements. The maximum of the range is typically reserved for candidates who significantly exceed the required and preferred qualifications.
