Overview

Our client is looking for a Database Administrator who will design, administer, maintain, and modernize mission-critical databases while supporting secure data access, database performance, migration efforts, and high-availability operations within a Federal cloud and distributed computing environment.

Per our Federal Government Contract, candidates must be U.S. Citizens with an ACTIVE TOP SECRET CLEARANCE.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, administer, and maintain enterprise database environments.
  • Administer PostgreSQL databases, including installation, configuration, monitoring, performance tuning, backup, recovery, and user management.
  • Evaluate mainframe and distributed data models to support migration into consolidated database environments.
  • Support database modernization efforts, including schema conversion, data migration, data validation, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Ensure database revisions, architecture changes, and code modifications do not negatively impact existing database access calls or application functionality.
  • Write, troubleshoot, and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, and database objects.
  • Define users and manage secure, timely access to database resources in accordance with established security requirements.
  • Implement and maintain database backup, recovery, and high-availability solutions.
  • Monitor and optimize database performance to minimize downtime and ensure system availability.
  • Establish, document, and enforce database policies, procedures, standards, and operational practices.
  • Implement database security controls, auditing, encryption, and secure administration practices.
  • Develop and maintain scripts and automation to support database administration and operational efficiency.
  • Perform root cause analysis and troubleshoot database issues in coordination with development, infrastructure, and operations teams.
  • Follow established runbooks, operational procedures, change-management processes, and escalation procedures.
  • Participate in Agile development activities, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, and production support.
  • Work within government-approved software toolsets and established Federal IT processes.


Qualifications

  • Active Top Secret (TS) clearance required.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • 2+ years of experience administering PostgreSQL, including installation, configuration, monitoring, tuning, backup, recovery, and user management.
  • 2+ years of experience working with relational databases, including PostgreSQL, Oracle, Db2, and SQL.
  • Experience writing and troubleshooting SQL queries, stored procedures, and database objects.
  • 2+ years of experience with database backup and recovery, security, scripting, and automation.
  • Knowledge of database modernization and migration, including schema conversion, data validation, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Understanding of database security controls, auditing, encryption, and secure administration practices.
  • 2+ years of experience working in Agile environments, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, and production support.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to perform root cause analysis and collaborate effectively with development, infrastructure, and operations teams.
  • Ability to follow operational procedures, runbooks, change-management processes, and escalation procedures.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Security+ certification preferred and/or required by project guidance.
  • Experience supporting Federal, Department of Defense (DoD), or other mission-critical government environments.
  • Experience supporting database modernization and migration initiatives involving legacy and distributed systems.
  • Experience working in secure cloud environments.
  • Experience developing database automation and scripting solutions.
  • Experience supporting high-availability database architectures and minimizing database downtime.
  • Experience working with government-approved software toolsets and Federal security requirements.
