Data Operations Specialist (DBA) US CITIZENS ONLY
Redan LLC is seeking an experienced Data Operations Specialist (DBA) to operate and sustain the cloud data environment ensuring stability, reliability, and security across AWS pipelines, databases, and a public open-data portal.
In this role you will keep production data operations healthy and predictable: operating established AWS workflows, administering relational and warehouse databases, publishing datasets through the agency's open-data portal, monitoring platform health, and responding to incidents. You will maintain the operational documentation - SOPs, runbooks, and health and maintenance reports - that keeps the environment auditable and supportable.
The ideal candidate brings hands-on AWS data-operations and database-administration depth, a reliability- and quality-first mindset, and the discipline to meet SLAs in a regulated federal environment. You must be comfortable in an Agile environment and effective at collaborating with engineering, governance, and end-user stakeholders.
What You'll Be Doing
As the Data Operations Specialist (DBA) at Redan, you will:
37 Operate and maintain established AWS-based data workflows (Lambda, Glue, Step Functions, Redshift, RDS PostgreSQL, S3, and related data services)
37 Conduct ongoing database administration - tuning, patching, backup and restore, indexing, and general maintenance - across managed relational and warehouse stores (RDS PostgreSQL and Redshift; SQL Server legacy)
37 Manage the Huwise open-data portal and CKAN data catalog; ensure accurate, timely dataset publication and support new data visualizations
37 Monitor platform health, logging, and alerts; perform initial incident triage and response by severity level
37 Monitor data quality and observability - pipeline execution, data freshness, completeness, and volume anomalies
37 Maintain and update SOPs, runbooks, and operational documentation at least quarterly, and within 30 days of a new or updated data-product release
37 Deliver monthly SLA performance reporting - pipeline success rates, incident summaries, data availability, and operational metrics - plus a monthly database health and maintenance report
37 Provide end-user support and training related to database access, credentials, and data-usage tools
37 Ensure backups meet documented RTO/RPO objectives and that o
37 perations sustain the required successful-run rate
37 Support ATO maintenance, FISMA compliance, and protection of PII and CUI in coordination with the agency IT and security teams
Profile of Success
Required:
37 Minimum 5 years of database administration and data-operations experience, including production support
37 Hands-on experience administering Amazon Redshift, RDS (PostgreSQL or SQL Server), or comparable managed data stores - backup and restore, tuning, patching, and performance optimization
37 Experience operating AWS data services (Glue, Lambda, Step Functions, S3) in a production environment
37 Experience designing and maintaining relational schemas, star/snowflake models, indexes, and partition strategies
37 Proficiency in SQL; working proficiency in Python for operational scripting and automation
37 Experience monitoring platform health, logging, and alerting, with incident triage and resolution under SLAs
37 Experience producing SOPs, runbooks, and operational or governance artifacts for federal or regulated stakeholders
37 Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and ceremonies
37 Excellent written and oral communication; strong troubleshooting and attention to detail
Preferred:
37 AWS certification (e.g., SysOps Administrator - Associate, Data Engineer - Associate, or Solutions Architect - Associate)
37 Experience with open-data platforms - CKAN, Huwise, or comparable data portals
37 Experience with data-validation tooling (e.g., Great Expectations) and data catalogs (AWS Glue, Lake Formation)
37 Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform) and CI/CD
37 Prior federal experience; familiarity with FISMA, ATO maintenance, and Privacy Act and CUI handling

37 Must obtain and maintain a favorably adjudicated Minimum Background Investigation (MBI, Moderate Risk) prior to accessing client systems, and maintain that clearance level throughout the period of performance
37 Fully remote; work performed within the continental United States; no travel is required or anticipated
