Full Job Description
Data Engineer to join our team and contribute to our mission to Make Every Purchase Rewarding. As a key contributor within the Data Platform Organization, you will join our Data Infrastructure & Compliance Engineering (DICE) squad to build and govern the foundational data platform that every team at Ibotta depends on.

DICE delivers the core infrastructure, compliance, security, and reliability of our data platform. We own Databricks, the Data Lake, and the standards that let engineering and analytics teams move fast without compromising the security of our data. As a Data Engineer on DICE, you'll build software to provision and govern our data assets, develop self-service infrastructure tooling, and automate the access controls, retention, and audit evidence that keep us compliant.

This position is located in Denver, Colorado as a hybrid position requiring 3 days in the office (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday). Candidates must live in the United States.

Not based in Denver? We will offer a relocation bonus to help make your move to the Mile High City a smooth one.

What you will be doing:

  • Data Platform Infrastructure: Build and maintain the Terraform and Python that provision our Databricks workspaces, catalogs, and AWS data infrastructure; extend the patterns and modules other teams deploy against
  • Governance and Access Control: Implement and automate the controls that keep our data platform secure and auditable: identity and permissions management, data retention enforcement, and the evidence collection behind our SOX and SOC 2 obligations
  • Self-Service Infrastructure Tooling: Build the automation and applications that let teams provision, monitor, and manage their own data infrastructure inside the standards we set
  • Data Movement at Scale: Use Python and Spark to build and maintain the pipelines and frameworks that move data through Ibotta's Data Lake, meeting our data governance and data security standards
  • Reliability and Support: Perform incident resolution and root cause analysis on critical outages, implement fixes for systematic failures, and participate in an on-call rotation that includes after-hours coverage
  • Process Improvement: Identify, design, and implement improvements to how the data platform runs, including automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, and re-designing infrastructure for greater reliability and performance
  • Embrace and uphold Ibotta's Core Values: Integrity, Boldness, Ownership, Teamwork, Transparency, and A good idea can come from anywhere.

What we are looking for:
  • Experience: 3+ years of software engineering experience with a focus on data engineering, analytics engineering, or backend development.
  • Data Engineering Fundamentals: Proficiency in Python and SQL, familiarity with medallion architecture (bronze/silver/gold) or similar layered data design patterns, and experience building big data pipelines that support data transformation, metadata, dependency management, and workload orchestration
  • Infrastructure as Code: Experience provisioning and managing cloud infrastructure with Terraform or similar tooling
  • Cloud and Data Platforms: Hands-on experience with AWS and with Databricks or a comparable Spark-based platform
  • Security and Governance Awareness: Understanding of access control, data privacy, or compliance requirements in a data context, and an interest in building systems that enforce them
  • Delivery Track Record: Experience as a key contributor on medium to large data or infrastructure projects, from ideation through implementation
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field

Additional Details:
  • This position is located in Denver, CO and includes competitive pay, flexible time off, benefits package (including medical, dental, vision), Employee Stock Purchase Program, and 401k match. Denver office perks include paid parking, snacks, and occasional meals.
  • Base compensation range: $110,000 - $126,000. Equity is included in overall compensation package. This compensation range is specific to the United States labor market and may be adjusted based on actual experience.
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
