Full Job Description
The Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) has 1 exciting indeterminate opportunity within the Technology branch at the CATSA HQ.

Summary of responsibilities:

The Data Engineer is responsible for analyzing, developing, implementing, and supporting CATSA's business data solutions such as data engineering, Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) development, Power platform (Power BI, PowerApps, Power Automate) development, Artificial Intelligence (AIOps)/Machine Learning (MLOps) Operations. The Data Engineer performs all other duties and responsibilities related to the position as required.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
  • Design and create interactive dashboards and reports using Power BI to provide data-driven insights and facilitate decision-making.
  • Develop custom applications using PowerApps to meet specific business requirements.
  • Automate business workflows using Power Automate to enhance operational efficiency and reduce manual tasks.
  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable and efficient data pipelines support data integration, processing, and analytics.
  • Implement and manage ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes to ensure data quality and reliability across multiple data sources.


What you need to succeed:
To qualify for the position, you must have:
  • Graduation from a recognized university with a specialization in Computer Science, Information Technology/Management, or another specialty relevant to the duties of the position, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of three years (3) of experience with advanced Structured Query Language (SQL).
  • Minimum three years (3) of experience in development using Microsoft Power Platform tools (PowerApps, Power Automate, Power BI).
  • A minimum two years (2) of experience using ETL/data engineering tools (e.g., Microsoft SSIS, IBM DataStage, Informatica, Azure data factory, Microsoft Fabric, Azure Synapse etc.) for the creation and implementation of data marts, data lakes.

Valuable skills include:
  • Knowledge of CATSA's mandate and priorities, as well as an awareness of relevant legislation impacting CATSA.
  • Knowledge of data modeling, data analysis, programming technologies (e.g., Python), statistical concepts and techniques.
  • Knowledge of development in a hybrid cloud and on-premises environment
  • Experience in programming languages such as Python, Java, .Net or C#.
  • Experience in Artificial Intelligence (AI) development (Microsoft AI foundry, Agent creation)
  • Experience in Data administration/security/Governance
  • Experience in data lake architecture and data pipelines.
  • Understanding of DevOps practices and tools, including CI/CD pipelines.
  • Proven experience in providing user training and support on Microsoft Power Platform solutions.
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure AI Engineer Associate.
  • Microsoft Certified Azure Data Engineer Associate.
  • Microsoft Certified: Power Platform Developer Associate desired


Specific work requirements:

  • Language Profile: English essential;
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance;
