Minimum qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent practical experience.
  • 12 years of experience managing technical teams in charge of operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting electrical, mechanical, and controls infrastructure and components.
  • 3 years of experience in developing and managing managers.

Preferred qualifications:
  • Master's degree in a related engineering field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience collaborating with other business units to meet company goals and standards.
  • Knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems in a data center environment.
  • Excellent people management and leadership skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.


About the job

As the Area lead, you will lead a team of talented electrical, cooling, and controls technicians, plant engineers, facility managers, and program managers who are responsible for the operational health and efficiency of Google's Data Centers, the largest cloud computer in the world.

You will need a combination of technical depth, management expertise, and leadership to develop, nurture, and guide multiple operations teams across a geographic area. You will have knowledge of leading through change, and demonstrated experience setting and delivering strategies in a dynamic, rapidly changing environment.

You will be a leader of leaders, responsible for the team's performance, well-being, and career development execution against Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), use and maturation of existing tools and systems, and collaboratively defining future processes, systems, and Infrastructure.

US: $205000 - $285000 (USD) 25% bonus target equity benefits

Responsibilities
  • Oversee the development of strategies to keep operational costs to a minimum, improve efficiency, and reduce environmental impact at a site, along with driving site-level development of programs and initiatives.
  • Incorporate domain expertise and experience to deliver an improved data center design to optimize equipment and operations for next generation data centers.
  • Lead the strategy and ongoing operation of Google's growing portfolio of data centers within the area
  • Lead the large-scale electrical and cooling infrastructure operations of the data center campuses within the area.
  • Drive new greenfield site turn-up within the area including hiring, coaching, and team building.
