Basic FunctionHF Sinclair is seeking a Crude Oil Trader in Canada. In this role, you will manage trading of Crude Oil in Canada, for supply to HF Sinclair USA refineries. You will also work on complex trading assignments, using specialized knowledge and skills.
Job Duties- Conducts Canadian trading for refinery supply to maximize profitability
- Monitors foreign and Canadian crude markets and supply pricing to Planning group for inclusion into Refinery LP runs
- Purchases and/or trades Canadian feedstock to HF Sinclair refineries as required
- Coordinates with Crude Scheduling for Canadian crude oil movements and with Crude Origination for development of long term and strategic positions.
- Conducts crude oil blending activities to generate maximum value and optimal feedstock opportunities
- Supplies Canadian crude oil to HF Sinclair for its refineries at lowest possible cost in conjunction with Domestic Supply Managers
- Arranges the most efficient means of transportation when transporting Canadian crude oil
- Maintains relationships with suppliers and various industry participants. Identifies new and maintains current customer base and develops and implements strategies to expand and establish new customers.
- Collects and analyzes market research to verify price information and to identify other potential purchasing opportunities. Conducts trend analysis.
- Monitors and evaluates crude market to recommend new trading opportunities. Develops and executes crude supply, blending and transportation strategy.
- Acts as a liaison and supports other company departments with crude oil transactions. Collaborates closely with refinery management and planners to supply optimal crude slate to the refineries.
Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their superior, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion.
ExperienceA minimum of eight years or more related job experience in the petroleum industry, including at least 5 years scheduling or trading crude oil.
Preferred Experience
Experience in Canadian crude oil production or refining is preferred.
Education LevelA minimum of a bachelor's degree in economics, Finance, Engineering or other related degree is required.
Required SkillsAdvanced ability to perform a variety of crude oil assignments effectively. Excellent networking and communications skills are essential. Crude oil trading skills, understanding and exposure to risk management, financial trading, and economical analysis. Ability to maintain positive and productive working relationship within department and with other departments. Ability to organize, coordinate, or develop systems to identify price setting mechanism for various crude oils, the value of various crude oils to our refineries, and to capture arbitrage and blending opportunities based on differences in these values. Ability to effectively communicate with others, both written and verbal communication, advanced reading and writing skills, with the ability to perform complex mathematical calculations.
Preferred Skills
Advanced knowledge of SAP, Microsoft products, multi tasking ability and industry specialization. Knowledge of crude oil supply and trading as well as refining procedures is also preferred.

Work ConditionsOffice based with travel up to 25% by land and air required. Petroleum refinery, warehouse/plant environment, and out-of-doors environment including but not limited to chemicals, pressure vessels, tanks, rotating equipment. Subject to all weather and varying road conditions.
