About the Role
JDS Energy & Mining is seeking an experienced Cost Controller to support the successful delivery of major projects. Working as part of an Integrated Project Team (IPT), this position provides cost control, forecasting, reporting, and financial performance monitoring throughout the project lifecycle. The Cost Controller plays a key role in ensuring project expenditures are accurately tracked, forecasted, and reported while supporting effective project decision making. Working closely with the Project Controls team, Project Manager, engineering, procurement, construction, and contractor teams, the Cost Controller is responsible for maintaining project cost information, monitoring project performance, supporting forecasting activities, and ensuring project expenditures remain aligned with approved budgets and project objectives. This position may require occasional travel to project sites to support project execution and stakeholder engagement.

Key Responsibilities
Cost Management
• Maintain project cost reports, cost control systems, and project budgets.
• Monitor commitments, purchase orders, invoices, accruals, actual costs, and forecast expenditures.
• Prepare and maintain Estimate to Complete (ETC) and Estimate at Completion (EAC) forecasts.
• Perform cost variance analysis and identify emerging cost trends and risks.
• Support monthly financial close activities, including accruals and cost reconciliation.
• Review contractor invoices and payment applications for accuracy and contractual compliance.
• Monitor contingency usage and assist with cash flow forecasting.
Reporting & Forecasting
• Prepare weekly and monthly project cost reports and performance dashboards.
• Support the preparation of project forecasts and management reports.
• Track project performance against approved budgets and cost baselines.
• Assist with earned value reporting and project performance metrics where applicable.
• Communicate cost performance, trends, and risks to project stakeholders.
Project Controls Support
• Support the implementation and continuous improvement of project controls processes and procedures.
• Maintain the project cost breakdown structure (CBS) and coding structure.
• Coordinate with schedulers to support integrated cost and schedule reporting.
• Assist with progress measurement and validation of contractor progress claims.
• Support project audits and governance reviews by maintaining accurate project documentation and records.
Change Management
• Support the project change management process by tracking approved changes and maintaining the change register.
• Assess the cost impacts of scope changes and emerging trends.
• Ensure approved changes are incorporated into project budgets and forecasts.
• Assist with documenting project risks and opportunities related to project costs.
Package Details
Qualifications
• Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, Project Management, related discipline or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of cost control experience supporting major capital projects.
• Experience supporting projects through engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning phases is preferred.
• Strong understanding of project cost control principles, forecasting, budgeting, and financial reporting.
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Experience with SAP, EcoSys, Prism, Oracle, Power BI, or similar project controls software is considered an asset.
• Experience with Primavera P6 is considered an asset.
• Professional certifications such as CCP, PMP, or related credentials are considered an asset.
