Full Job Description
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Supervise daily transportation operations and provide direction to Logistics Coordinators to ensure cost-effective, on-time deliveries and compliance with customer requirements.
  • Review carrier bids, approve carrier selection decisions, and support rate negotiations to optimize transportation costs and service levels.
  • Lead resolution of transportation issues including shipment delays, carrier service failures, loading challenges, and customer escalations.
  • Manage logistics-related customer complaints from investigation through closure, including root cause analysis, corrective actions, and trend reporting.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for customers, carriers, Customer Service, Sales, and Operations regarding transportation-related matters.
  • Manage carrier relationships, contracts, performance metrics, and compliance with service commitments and company expectations.
  • Create, maintain, and continuously improve department Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and ensure team compliance through training and communication.
  • Oversee Transportation Management System (TMS) processes, recommend system improvements, and ensure transportation data accuracy.
  • Develop and analyze transportation KPIs, carrier scorecards, cost savings initiatives, and service performance metrics.
  • Identify and implement transportation optimization opportunities, including routing improvements, backhauls, and network efficiencies.
  • Oversee customer returns, special transportation projects, and plant support shipments to ensure cost-effective execution.
  • Manage the TranzAct freight payment database, including freight invoice approvals, carrier payment issues, and invoice dispute resolution.
  • Oversee freight claims, investigations, recovery efforts, and corrective actions to minimize transportation losses and damages.
  • Submit and maintain transportation routes and related master data within SAP, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Assist with transportation RFP processes, including carrier sourcing, bid analysis, negotiations, and implementation activities.
  • Provide leadership for after-hours transportation escalations and ensure critical customer service issues are promptly addressed.
  • Train, mentor, and develop logistics personnel while fostering accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Support the Director of Customer Experience & Logistics with strategic initiatives, cost reduction projects, and departmental objectives.

Skills and Work Experience Requirements:
  • Ten (10) years of experience in transportation, specifically carrier management/procurement or similar environment within a manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of North American transportation practices, procedures and regulations. Knowledge of Domestic Transportation modes including Truckload (Dry Van and Refrigerated), Liquid Tankers, Intermodal, Less Than Truckload, Consolidation and Continuous Move solutions
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Experience in traffic operations, dispatching, and with TMS systems
  • Positive attitude and show initiative.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel
  • Willing to go above and beyond to provide exceptional service to Blommer customers.

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Finance, or equivalent professional experience commensurate with requirements.

A reasonable estimate of the current base salary range at the time of posting is below. The base salary does not include other forms of compensation or benefits. The actual base salary within the specified range is based on several factors, including but not limited to applicant's skills, prior relevant experience, education, certifications, job responsibilities, market considerations and, if applicable, the location of the position.

This role is eligible for either a discretionary annual bonus (based on company, business unit and individual performance).

Salary Range: $80-90K
