ABOUT THE ROLE

The Construction Coordinator - Mechanical for the Concentrator will oversee and coordinate the safe and efficient execution of mechanical construction activities at the Hermosa Project site. In this role, you will provide field leadership for contractors and subcontractors responsible for installing, testing, and commissioning mechanical systems and associated utilities within a large-scale process facility. You will ensure construction activities are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with quality, environmental, and regulatory requirements.

This position plays a critical role in delivering project objectives while fostering a culture of safety, collaboration, operational excellence, and community stewardship. This role is based at the Hermosa Project site, near Patagonia, Arizona.

Other key responsibilities include, but aren't limited to:
  • Lead and coordinate daily activities of mechanical construction contractors and subcontractors.
  • Promote and maintain a strong safety culture, ensuring all work is executed safely and in compliance with project and corporate safety standards.
  • Verify that construction work meets project specifications, quality requirements, industry standards, and applicable building codes.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and industry regulatory requirements.
  • Support South32's environmental commitments and community relations initiatives through responsible construction practices.
  • Review construction schedules and provide input to support project milestones and overall execution strategy.
  • Identify project risks, constraints, and schedule impacts and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Ensure adherence to South32's Change Management processes and procedures.
  • Monitor contractor performance, productivity, and quality to ensure timely delivery of construction services.
  • Participate in contractor risk assessments and mitigation planning.
  • Collaborate with project stakeholders to support efficient commissioning, turnover, and project closeout activities.
  • Prepare and communicate construction progress reports, issues, and recommendations to project leadership.


ABOUT YOU

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:
  • Minimum 5 years of experience managing construction activities on large-scale industrial, mining, energy or process facility projects;
  • Experience managing and coordinating mechanical contractors and subcontractors;
  • Experience using Building Information Modeling (BIM) systems and construction management technologies.
  • Experience managing and coordinating project logistics;
  • Experience managing construction contracts and vendor services contracts;
  • Strong knowledge of industrial mechanical systems and construction practices, including: Grinding mills, Flotation systems, Pumping systems, Piping systems, Conveyance systems
  • Experience working with teams and interacting with customers;
  • Experience working in a cross-cultural setting;
  • Proven track record of developing and maintaining a safe work culture;
  • Experience with Building Information Management systems;
  • Visible field safety leadership and an ability to drive safety and performance excellence
  • Strong Quality Assurance background demonstrated with qualifications and experience leading to efficient commissioning and handover practices
  • Knowledge of industrial mechanical construction and trade practices, including grinding mill, flotation, pumping, piping, and conveyance design, execution and commissioning.
  • Strong and effective communication and engagement skills
  • Relationship building skills: demonstrated empathy, emotional intelligence and cross-cultural effectiveness with the ability to achieve consensus and build alignment cooperatively
  • Maintain high standards of professional and ethical conduct
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Demonstrated experience implementing Environmental Compliance obligations.
