Position OverviewA well-established
construction company is seeking an experienced
Controller to support the company's accounting and financial operations. This position will work closely with the CFO and senior leadership and will have significant responsibility for construction accounting, job costing, financial reporting, and the overall accuracy of the company's financials.
The ideal candidate will have
direct construction accounting experience with a company generating at least $75M in annual revenue, a stable employment history, and strong knowledge of both operational and corporate accounting.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee and support AP, AR, General Ledger, cash receipts, and financial reporting.
- Manage construction-related AP processes, including purchase orders, subcontracts, lien releases, insurance certificates, contracts, and change orders.
- Oversee AR billing, cash receipts, and customer account activity.
- Manage job costing, including direct cost entries, inter-project adjustments, and reconciliation of job costs to the General Ledger.
- Prepare and analyze financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Support WIP reporting, percentage-of-completion accounting, gross profit adjustments, and job cost analysis.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and budget-to-actual analysis.
- Ensure the accuracy and integrity of the General Ledger and financial reporting.
- Develop and maintain effective internal controls and accounting procedures.
- Partner with Project Managers and Operations to address project-level financial issues and improve profitability.
- Assist with audits, tax-related activities, and regulatory compliance.
- Provide financial analysis and reporting to the CFO and senior leadership.
- Support strategic financial planning and other projects as assigned.
Required Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 5-7+ years of progressive accounting experience with direct construction industry experience.
- Experience working for a construction company with at least $75M in annual revenue.
- Strong knowledge of job costing, AP, AR, General Ledger, and financial statements.
- Hands-on experience with construction accounting processes, including POs, subcontracts, lien releases, insurance, contracts, change orders, billing, and cash receipts.
- Experience with job costing to General Ledger, direct cost entries, budgeting, and inter-project adjustments.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- CPA or CMA preferred.

- Construction accounting software experience.
