Full Job Description
Reports To: Production Supervisor
The Contact Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient processing of chemical products, namely Sulfuric Acid, Sulfur Dioxide, Oleum, Sodium Bisulfite, Sodium Potassium Bisulfite, Sodium Thiosulfate and Ammonium Thiosulfate. The Operator must frequently adjust processes to operate at optimum levels using objective information. The position also requires responding effectively in emergency situations, mechanical knowledge, mathematical reasoning skills, instrument knowledge, laboratory knowledge, computer skills, and an understanding of many different tools and devices used on the job.
Pay Rate: $37.74/hour to $47.18 depending on hire date to the plant

SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Able to decide when to shut down the entire plant or individual processes during an upset or emergency
Respond to power and equipment failures
Follow standard operating procedures without reference to manual
Isolate equipment for maintenance through lockout/tagout and barricade area to restrict access per safety procedures
Adjust process to operate within established limits or at optimum levels
Troubleshoot processes when problems arise or to prevent problems from arising
Understand and anticipate the dynamics of changes in the process
Identify and submit maintenance work requests in eMaint
Perform specific cleaning or repair tasks
Make temporary repairs to minor leaks
Maintain open communication with co-workers and supervisors regarding activities in the plant. Review plant status and shift activities with relief operator at end of shift
Conduct rounds to observe process values and inspect equipment
Record storage tank levels and divert product flows or adjust process to fulfill operating instructions or prevent overfilling a tank
Maintain pH level of pond
Analyze process samples using laboratory techniques
Coordinate with laboratory on the manufacturing of products
Perform preventive maintenance and safety inspections
Aid Powerhouse Engineer as needed
Assist with maintenance projects during shutdowns and turnarounds
Notify supervision of problems that require attention
Act as site manager during non-business hours
Answer/respond to phone calls during off hours
Record information on the log sheet regarding activities or events during the shift
Other work as directed by supervisor

Experience in ISO, Six Sigma, 5S, RCFA, FMECA or RCMS.
