Full Job Description
Overview

As a Consulting Project Manager, you will own the end-to-end delivery of complex consulting engagements-accountable for scope, schedule, risk, quality, and financial health from sales handoff through value realization. You will serve as the primary delivery leader for the customer, running disciplined delivery rhythms, managing escalations, and maintaining executive trust throughout the engagement lifecycle.

Responsibilities

Account Delivery Management

  • Manage the direction of solution deliveries and influence others to secure resources to deliver on customer contracts. Ensure delivery across the lifecycle: envisioning, solution development, delivery planning, cloud consumption and usage, and delivery management. Lead or participate in steering committee meetings with strategic customers.

  • Contribute to consumption activities, identify patterns of consumption gaps, and drive consumption by removing blockers and enabling customers to realize full value of their purchases. Hold accountability for project delivery forecast.

  • Collaborate with Sales to support contract setup, signature, compliance, and execution from deal approvals to invoicing and closure. Manage fiscal responsibility within the project portfolio-staying within budget while driving engagement profitability and risk management.

  • Support strategic relationships with key stakeholders (often as part of a steering committee), support new customer opportunities in partnership with Sales, and communicate the current view of delivery to customer executives on a regular cadence.

Relationship Development

  • Engage internal and external stakeholders as peers with subject matter expertise. Prevent and manage escalations through targeted communications and deliver difficult messages as needed. Establish governance to influence customer decision making.

  • Drive customer satisfaction by representing Microsoft to senior customer stakeholders, acting as the voice of the customer, and ensuring resolution of challenged deliveries. Manage expectations with political sensitivity and oversee creation of Success Expectations and customer and partner experience (CPE).

  • Adhere to project compliance standards (e.g., confidentiality, privacy) and contract requirements, accommodate customer compliance standards, and champion compliance through knowledge sharing across teams.

Monitoring and Controlling

  • Orchestrate and oversee a broad range of project metrics on large, complex, high-visibility projects. Ensure adherence to KPIs, provide strategic direction, and adapt to high-impact changes throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Proactively manage risks and issues across large, complex projects using qualitative analysis (probability, impact, urgency), lead recoveries and escalations, keep tools updated, and manage issue closure as a high priority.

  • Ensure timely completion and quality of deliverables by applying quality management techniques, monitoring output, and implementing corrective action. Manage success expectations to create required deliverables.

  • Confirm customer change control at kickoff, anticipate changes, and test the process before initiating formal change.

  • Manage finances for large-scope projects by balancing funding and resources across workstreams, reducing cost and improving delivery margin without impacting quality, and understanding P&L and accrual-based accounting impacts.

  • Manage communications with senior stakeholders on project health, issues, and financial performance throughout the lifecycle, and establish formal rhythms to track and report status.

  • Monitor and lead customer contract Amendments, Delivery Acceptance, Proof of Delivery, and Invoicing processes.

Closure

  • Drive timely project closure by completing sign-off tasks (e.g., system closeout updates, deletion of customer data, Deliverable Acceptance Form).

  • Drive incremental process improvement by reflecting on and broadly sharing lessons learned, suggesting IP improvements, providing performance feedback to managers, and conducting closeout interviews.

  • Contribute across teams as a thought leader or subject matter expert, invest in others through team or regional initiatives, and provide cross-border mentoring and peer alignment.

Business Growth

  • Demonstrate accountability for the financial health of a project or program (revenue attainment, accurate forecasting, cost management, utilization, skills, and capacity planning). Own and drive backlog risk management.

  • Drive incremental business through next-step proposals and next-stage proposal (NSP) discussions, engage in the pursuit cycle, and support rhythm of business (ROB) and CFO forecasting.

  • Look for or create opportunities to maximize timely cloud consumption, identify new opportunities with customers, and facilitate follow-up conversations to accelerate delivery and prevent delays.
