We are interested in receiving resumes for site-based General Superintendent(s). Positions will be rotation assignments. The General Superintendent will provide the day-to day direction to owner's team Superintendents and contractors during surface construction.

Successful candidates will ensure best practices are implemented by contractors in support of Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) and project/business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work proactively with contractors to ensure scope of work is conducted in compliance with Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) and Quality policies and procedures;
  • Report to the project management team, through the surface construction manager;
  • Provide senior level field presence on site, coach field staff on issue resolution, review site labor requirements, mentor field staff and engage in succession planning;
  • Effectively manage field staff by providing guidance and leadership on construction activities, develop effective communication between field and other project staff;
  • Build positive working relationships with staff and contractors;
  • Ensure subordinates perform as required in role description;
  • Manage and provide guidance/technical support to owner's team and contractors within assigned area;
  • Conduct constructability reviews of execution plans and schedules prior to contractor mobilization, ensure construction plans reflect relevant assessments;
  • Develop and execute project work plans aimed at keeping projects on schedule and within budget;
  • Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate construction projects from start to finish while remaining in compliance with safety regulations, project schedule, drawing specifications, quality guidelines and budget;
  • Monitor/supervise contractor work/performance throughout the project and offer corrective solutions (where required/agreed) in consultation with the Surface Construction Manager;
  • Organize/attend meetings with assigned contractors;
  • Manage contractor/trades productivity issues by ensuring proper use of personnel, equipment and materials;
  • Ensure construction conforms to the drawings/specifications and construction best practices are followed by assigned contractors;
  • Manage contractor extras, track performance during execution of additional scope;
  • Assist contractors with interpretation, clarification, interference resolution and QA/QC related matters;
  • Ensure project is constructed in compliance with drawings, specifications, Construction Work Packages (CWPs) and Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs);
  • Submit daily progress reports to the Surface Construction Manager outlining contractor progress, achievements, issues/concerns and other relevant information as required by management;
  • Other related duties as required.


Qualifications and Experience

  • Technical Engineering Diploma or Journeyperson Certification with 8+ years of construction supervisory/management experience in an industrial setting required;
  • Previous experience in a General Superintendent or similar construction management role;
  • Previous computer experience and working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines;
  • Understanding of construction budgets;
  • Ability to use, interpret and track performance against established contractor schedules;
  • Solid knowledge/understanding/appreciation of Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies/procedures, ensure contractors conduct work in accordance with established project HSE requirements;
  • Direct/mentor contractor supervisory staff and evaluate trades workforce;
  • Standard mobility required with ability to work in cold weather environment and tolerate exposures to temperature extremes and noise typically found in an industrial construction setting;
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
