Configuration Management SpecialistResponsibilities and Duties
- Support configuration management activities for enterprise systems, applications, infrastructure, and operational environments.
- Establish, maintain, and monitor configuration baselines to ensure consistency, integrity, and traceability across supported systems.
- Manage configuration items (CIs) and maintain accurate records within configuration management databases (CMDBs) and repositories.
- Support change management processes by reviewing, documenting, tracking, and coordinating changes to hardware, software, documentation, and system configurations.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of Configuration Management Plans (CMPs), policies, procedures, and standards.
- Track software releases, patches, upgrades, and deployments to ensure proper version control and configuration compliance.
- Maintain inventories of hardware, software, licenses, and technology assets supporting operational environments.
- Support operational sustainment activities by ensuring configuration information remains accurate and current throughout the system lifecycle.
- Collaborate with system administrators, developers, engineers, cybersecurity personnel, and project teams to maintain configuration control.
- Perform configuration audits to verify compliance with approved baselines, organizational standards, and operational requirements.
- Support incident, problem, and change management processes by providing configuration-related analysis and documentation.
- Develop and maintain configuration status accounting reports and metrics for program leadership and stakeholders.
- Assist with release management and deployment activities to ensure successful implementation of system updates and enhancements.
- Support vulnerability remediation efforts by tracking configuration changes associated with security findings and corrective actions.
- Maintain documentation repositories, version control systems, and configuration records.
- Identify configuration management risks and recommend corrective actions to improve operational effectiveness.
- Support software and infrastructure modernization initiatives while maintaining configuration integrity.
- Participate in system testing, validation, and operational readiness activities to ensure deployed solutions meet configuration requirements.
- Support audits, assessments, and compliance reviews by providing configuration management artifacts and documentation.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance operational efficiency, service delivery, and configuration management processes.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience supporting IT programs, systems, or technology operations.
- Experience supporting configuration management, asset management, change management, or related IT operational activities.
- Familiarity with configuration management principles, processes, and best practices.
- Experience maintaining technical documentation, inventories, system records, and configuration baselines.
- Familiarity with configuration management and service management tools such as ServiceNow, Jira, Confluence, Azure DevOps, Git, or similar platforms.
- Understanding of software version control, release management, and deployment processes.
- Experience supporting operational and sustainment activities in enterprise IT environments.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain attention to detail in fast-paced operational environments.
- Ability to work effectively with technical teams, business stakeholders, and management personnel.
- U.S. Citizen.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DHS Suitability determination, Public Trust, Secret, or higher security clearance as required by the contract.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and/or Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) environments.
- Experience supporting operations and sustainment programs for federal information systems.
- Familiarity with ITIL-based configuration, asset, change, release, and service management practices.
- Experience administering or supporting CMDB platforms and configuration management repositories.
- Knowledge of Federal cybersecurity requirements, including FISMA, NIST RMF, and configuration management controls outlined in NIST SP 800-53.
- Experience supporting software development, application sustainment, or infrastructure operations programs.
- Familiarity with automated configuration management and deployment tools.
- Experience supporting audits, compliance reviews, and operational readiness assessments.
- Relevant certifications such as ITIL Foundation, CompTIA Security+, CompTIA Network+, Certified Configuration Management Professional (CCMP), ServiceNow Certified System Administrator, or equivalent certifications.
