Summary

This vacancy is to fill multiple Computer Scientist (Artificial Intelligence) positions at the Department of Commerce, in the International Trade Administration, Industry & Analysis.

Duties

Help

As a Computer Scientist (Artificial Intelligence), you will perform the following duties:

  • Independently designs, develops, tests, implements, and maintains software applications and artificial intelligence solutions supporting agency programs and enterprise modernization initiatives.
  • Develops and implements machine learning models, predictive analytics solutions, and automation tools supporting organizational priorities.
  • Analyzes business requirements and translates functional needs into technical software solutions.
  • Applies professional computer science principles to ensure software quality, maintainability, reliability, scalability, and security.


This position may be filled at the GS-9 or GS-11 level, with promotion potential to the GS-13 level. The GS-9 level provides an opportunity for professional development and progression to higher levels of responsibility. The major duties described above are representative of the work performed at the GS-11 level.

This Job Opportunity Announcement may be used to fill other Computer Scientist (Artificial Intelligence) GS-1550-9/11, positions with a full performance level to the GS13, within the Department of Commerce in the same geographical location or local commuting area with the same qualifications and specialized experience.

Qualifications

Basic Education Requirement

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

  • Degree in Computer Science: A bachelor's degree in computer science from an accredited or pre-accredited institution. OR
  • Combination of Education: A bachelor's degree from an accredited or pre-accredited institution that included or was supplemented by 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of mathematics and statistics that included differential and integral calculus.


Specialized experience Requirement

To qualify at the GS-9 level: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector performing the following:

  • Supporting the development, testing, or maintenance of software, artificial intelligence, machine learning, or automation solutions; and
  • Supporting data analysis and information technology, system modernization, or automation projects and communicating technical information to team members and stakeholders.


OR

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION: A master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree.

OR

COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

To qualify at the GS-11 level: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector performing the following:

  • Developing, testing, implementing, or maintaining software, artificial intelligence, machine learning, or automation solutions; and
  • Developing or analyzing data, models, or data-driven solutions to support organizational or mission requirements; and
  • Analyzing requirements and developing or implementing technical solutions for information technology, system modernization, or cloud-based projects, including communicating technical information as needed to support assigned work.


OR

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree

OR

COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.
