Position Summary:The Commissioning Area Engineer is responsible for coordinating work connected with the testing and/or commissioning of electrical distribution and transmission substations for utility clients. Individuals will provide direct supervision over Electric Power Systems startup personnel along with other suppliers such as contractor electricians and engineering staff.
Responsibilities- Perform substation field engineering, including work plan preparation and project testing functions of Area Engineers in the commissioning of new or modified transmission facilities.
- Review, revise, and/or develop isolation and restoration work plans, perform preparation of integrated functional test plans, and performance of functional tests (contractor's lead AE will review any work plans that require second review.)
- Direct troubleshooting efforts, including plan development and execution to resolve functional test deficiencies.
- Perform the mark-up of field change drawings, discrepancy lists and project closure packages within 30 days of project in-service date.
- Provides on-site support to Design Engineering, Substation Construction and to Transmission Service Center Managers engaged in the construction, operation, and maintenance of Customer's transmission system as related to design philosophy and providing field information/valid requirements.
- Provide technical guidance on unusual or complex problems ensuring customer design standards are maintained.
QualificationsRequired Skills/Abilities:- Able to pass a pre-employment drug screen due to this being a safety sensitive position.
- Complete a satisfactory criminal background check.
- Able to work overtime and travel out of town for periods of time.
- Must have a valid driver's license and currently have and be able to maintain a good driving record.
- Hands on experience installing, maintaining, testing & repairing protective relays in transmission, generation or distribution level substations.
- Capable of trouble shooting distribution and transmission controls circuits.
- Knowledge of relay test software.
Preferred Skills/Abilities:- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience installing, maintaining, testing, or repairing circuit breakers, transformers, switchgear, or similar equipment.
Education and Experience:- Bachelor's or associate degree in electrical/Electronic technology, Military Experience, or 4year Engineering Degree, preferred
Physical Requirements:- Able to climb ladders, stand for extended periods, able to lift 70 lbs.
