CNC Programmer/Manufacturing Engineer

Work Schedule:
Onsite - Torrance, CA
Moog's Military Aircraft Group has an immediate opening for a CNC Programmer/Manufacturing Engineer to support our Manufacturing Engineering Group. You are responsible for developing, optimizing and sustaining manufacturing programs for complex components and support tooling/fixturing design to ensure efficient, high-quality production.

The position serves as a key link between methods engineering and shop floor operations. This role ensures that all production methodologies meet quality standards, productivity expectations, and drawing requirements. developing and producing N/C programs to support multi axis/multi-functional CNC machinery. Reporting to our NC Programming Manager and you will have a 9/80 schedule option and work on-site in Torrance, CA.

As a CNC Programmer / Manufacturing Engineer, you will:
  • Programming: Create, modify, and optimize CNC programs using CAD/CAM software for multi-axis (3, 4, 5-axis) mills, lathes, and mill/turn machines.
  • Process planning: Develop and plan process and methods of each operation in multi operation / multi-functional machinery. Experience with multi pallet / pallet pull systems.
  • Tooling & Fixturing: Design and or determine the use of appropriate tooling, jigs, and fixtures, and develop detailed drawings or sketches as needed to facilitate efficient and repeatable part manufacturing.
  • Documentation & Standards: Develop and maintain manufacturing documentation, including work instructions, process sheets, setup instructions, and standard operating procedures to ensure sustainable and repeatable processes.
  • Production Support & Troubleshooting: Provide expert technical support to the production floor, troubleshoot machining issues, support first article inspections (FAI), and resolve problems in collaboration with quality and methods engineering team.
  • Continuous Improvement: Utilize Lean manufacturing to enhance efficiency, reduce cycle times and cost and improve overall product quality.
  • Collaboration: Interface with engineering to provide feedback on manufacturability (Design for Manufacturing - DFM) and train/mentor production machinists of less experience on operations and techniques.
  • Equipment Management: Assist in research and acquisition of new equipment and technologies to improve manufacturing capabilities.


To be considered for this role, here's what you'll typically bring with you:
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field is often preferred but not mandatory: 7+ years relevant work experience in CNC programming and machining is an accepted alternative
  • Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in CNC programming and operations, preferably in a high-precision industry (e.g., aerospace, medical devices, energy)


It would be great if you also had:
  • Knowledge in Gear manufacturing and related equipment a plus.
  • Hands-on experience with multi-axis CNC machines and various control types (Fanuc, Siemens, Mazatrol)
  • Proficiency in CAD/CAM software (e.g., Siemens NX, CATIA, Mastercam)
  • Expertise in G-code and M-code programming
  • Strong knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and blueprint interpretation
  • Advanced shop math skills, including trigonometry and geometry.
  • Familiarity with precision measuring instruments (calipers, depth gages, CMMs)
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for collaborating across departments
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and demonstrate leadership qualities


Work Environment & Physical Demands:

This role typically involves a blend of office work (programming, documentation) and time on the shop floor (machine setup, troubleshooting). The ability to stand/walk for extended periods, and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) is often necessary.

Salary Range Transparency:
Torrance, CA $90,000.00-$115,000.00 Annually
