  • Monitor and maintain network performance across several sites, providing third-level NOC support.
  • Document activities and network outages to ensure effective communication with all stakeholders.

Job description

  • Operation and Maintenance of CLS (Cable Landing Station) and the entire ecosystem involved.


Responsibilities and assignments

  • Maintenance of SDH/SONET/DWDM transmission equipment related to Submarine Fiber Optic Cable System(s), including Power equipment interface and Management Systems based at CLS (Cable Landing Station) and the PFE (Power Feeding Equipment) for the electrical part of submarine system at CLS.
  • Conduct Preventive Maintenance tasks according to defined operations guidelines including, but not limited to.
  • Provide Remote Hands for Collocated Customers.
  • Test Assistance and maintaining Preventive Maintenance Documentation.
  • Conduct all scheduled manual back-ups, firmware, or software updates per manufacturers standard.
  • Uphold SLA Requirements for all Carrier level occupants. Process and manage all O&M activity within MTTR.
  • Interact with NOC (Network Operations Center) customer and telecommunication Carrier to fulfill any tasks related to any Planned or Unplanned Network Event.
  • Maintain Inventory System and spares cycle count of all DWDM submarine, transmission, power, and environmental control related systems;
  • Process and manage routine circuit testing and acceptance procedures to backhaul providers;
  • Maintain test equipment, interfaces, modules, firmware updates and their calibration for operational availability;
  • Communicate effectively with principals, department heads, and other maintenance personnel relating to telecommunications installation and maintenance;
  • Requires the provider to demonstrate expertise using network monitoring tools to monitor and operate several network sites supported;
  • Network troubleshooting is required to support voice, video, and IP-data traffic;
  • Responsible for proactively monitoring several networks in several locations;
  • Provide 3nd level technical support for the NOC (Network Operations Center);
  • Responsible for taking customer calls and working with them to understand technical related issues;
  • Manages customer circuit implementation test and turn up;
  • Assists in the development of technical requirements for new products;
  • Answering inbound calls regarding customers concerns;
  • Providing excellent customer service and terminal support.


Requirements and qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or Technology or equivalent major is a must. Master's degree is a plus;
  • Must have 5-7 years of experience in the field of Optical Communications. Experience of repeated submarine cable systems is a definitive advantage;
  • General knowledge of telecommunications technologies including: PFE, SDH, DWDM, OTN, Ethernet, and LAN technologies, and the inter-working of these technologies;
  • Referral Specialist and/or comprehensive call center knowledge;
  • Outstanding customer service skills;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills both in English and Spanish. Portuguese is a differencial;
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills;
  • Ability to work closely with other team members and departments;
  • Proficient in basic Microsoft applications;
  • Good knowledge and experience with the Internet Protocol (IP) suite is desirable;
  • Excellent customer care skills including experience taking customer related technical calls;
  • A first-hand working knowledge of network monitoring tools;
  • Desired: hand knowledge of Salesforce trouble-ticketing database system;
  • General understanding of the overall industry direction with regard to telecommunication technologies and the applications they will support;
  • Good written and oral communication skills. Ability to effectively document network outages and activities performed to restore outages;
  • Must be able to climb ladders;
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs and carry 25 lbs;
  • Must have a valid driver's license;
  • Must be able to stoop, kneel, or crouch;
  • Able to install cable, supports, and miscellaneous hardware as found in telecommunication systems and networks;
  • Able to work with power equipments;
  • Able to work after regular work time and to be on call;
  • Experience with the following: QinQ, G.8032, 802.3ad, 802.3ag, STP, PBT, VPLS, MPLS, Traffic Engineering, BGP, IS-IS, IPv6, IPv4;
  • Experience & hands-on configuration experience with Ethernet Switch Router;
  • Familiarity with Metro Ethernet products & solutions;
  • Knowledge of network security best practices.
