The role focuses on operational delivery, technical claims guidance, and consistent claim handling practices across the claims lifecycle, including investigation, coverage analysis, reserving, litigation management, and resolution. The incumbent will help set team priorities, support service and compliance standards, contribute to process improvements, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to achieve effective claims outcomes aligned with AXA XL's global standards. This position reports to the Claims Manager - Casualty, Canada.
What you'll be doingWhat will your essential responsibilities include?
- Lead, guide, and coordinate a team of casualty claims professionals to deliver operational claims objectives and consistent claim handling across coverage analysis, investigation, evaluation, reserving, litigation management, and resolution.
- Collaborate with underwriting teams on claim issues, policy interpretation, coverage considerations, and business development activities, providing technical claims insight where required.
- Maintain high standards of service, compliance, quality, and timeliness for policyholders, brokers, and internal stakeholders.
- Partner with legal counsel to manage litigation, apply sound judgment within established guidelines and authority, and support cost-effective claim resolution.
- Coordinate communication with external and internal stakeholders, including reinsurers, vendors, legal teams, underwriting, and finance, to support effective and timely claim outcomes.
- Identify and support opportunities for operational efficiencies, including technology, process enhancements, standards, training, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Oversee vendor performance and expense management within the claims unit, ensuring alignment with service expectations, quality standards, and operational priorities.
- Coach, mentor, and support team members by providing technical guidance, feedback, performance support, and development input.

- Claims Lifecycle Management: Handles (re)insurance claims from submission to resolution. This includes claim intake, assessment, processing, adjudication, settlement, as well as accurately recording, maintaining, organizing, storing, and retrieving relevant documents and files throughout the entire lifecycle of the claim.
- Claims Strategy: Considers the end goal during each stage of the claims process strategically to remain productive, focused, and cost effective, and following the organization's comprehensive policy to control litigation costs.

The Canada base salary range for this position is CAD 120,000 to 160,000. Actual pay will be determined based upon the individual's skills, experience and location. We strive for market alignment and internal equity with our colleagues' pay.
